1968 Engine Vin 302 J code stamp

Hi,
Saw a few pics of Vin stamps on 302 blocks. Mine is there but doesn’t look as pretty. We’re they all nice and near or did it depend on the person manning the production line.

In my experience they are very rough looking. Yours looks just fine. I would be more suspicious if it was very pretty!

Other clues about your car and engine are Sheetmetal stamping and cast date codes if you are interested. They should all pre date your build date. The engine block cast date is above the starter. There are cast dates in the rocker arm area on the top of the heads. You need to remove the starter and the valve covers to see them. They are 3 characters long and contain one letter.

There are Sheetmetal date codes all over the car. Once you spot a few then they will start to pop up all over. The easiest ones are on the fender area were the fender bolts to the engine compartment panels. Usually 3 or 4 characters with numbers and letters.

Take a pic of them and I will decode them for you.
