James,
Back from the lake cabin!!!! So so weather, but lot of fun.

So at hot idle you have all the vacuum advance in. I think you said you have 12 degrees of initial lead? So at idle you are at 28 degrees of advance. Sounds like a lot of advance!!! But it does not come in until the engine starts so your starter must be happy...

Rob

Yep. Initial at 11* so that's about 27* at idle and just off idle with the vacuum advance hooked up. Engine seems to like it, runs cool-ish, idles at ~825 RPM, no hesitation off the line (but I do have a manual, so its gas -> RPM~1200+ -> clutch), no gas smell, and no pinging that I've ever heard. I'm guessing that at the cranking speed of the starter that it doesn't create enough vacuum to engage the vacuum advance (?)... with a pump shot before cranking it seems to start almost immediately on first crank unless its been sitting for a while (~2 weeks or so, then it almost always take two cranks)

...Hope we are not boring the rest of the site!!

Rob

Pfffft.... they don't gotta read it if'in they don't wanta

James,
Yup, until it starts the vacuum signal at cranking speed would be zero in my mind. Happy starter!!

I love the technical side of all this! Don't start me on piston speed and rod ratio's!!
