Y'all correct me if I'm wrong but all the R code (428CJ) 68's had the hood scoop.

[/quote]

Was it the same hood that came with a normal 68 CJ? Does anyone have any pics?

Chech out Bob Teets pictures in the gallery. His HCS is a 428 Mustang.

Thanks. Anyone know where I can get one of these hoods? In case the blown motor I'm installing doesn't fit under the stock hood?

Branda is usually your best bet for stuff like that. Might want to try Stangaholics too.

Is that the same hood scoop that was on the '68 Torinos and '69 Mach 1s?

I've heard that the '68 (CJ) hood scoop is a little different than the '69 version. Something like the dimentions, etc...

Also--the 428CJ option superceeded the louvered hood; so it got the standard hood with the scoop and the black stripe.

Right, Bob??

Paul.

Does anyone know if the scoop is an add-on? Or is it built as part of the hood?

Right on, Paul, regular '68 hood W/O turn signals for a '68 Mustang CJ, and also the scoop is a 1 off for this year CJ which has a ram air open front area, unlike the later '69 cars, and also '68 and '69 scoops are of a different size. hicountry bob here.

Thanks, Bob!

The CJ hood scoop was a separate item, that attached with 4 (or 6) studs that were attached into the hood underside. Holes were drilled into the hood, and the scoop just sat on top. Nuts with washers held it on the underside. (right, Bob??).

I've never seen that hood scoop as an "official" type of dealer option in '68. Some catalogs for the Ford Performance, and Shelby had it for '69 Mustangs, and as an add-on for '67 and 68 Mustangs.

If you want it on your GT/CS for looks--then go for it, but if you show the car, you'll have a hard time "justifying" it to the judges.

For what it's worth--

Thanks for the info! I don't really care about showing it. I may want the scoop if my blower doesn't fit under the standard hood.

What would be cool--and look "appropiate" would be to take a '68 Shelby hood, and add the stock hood lip to it (about 3-4 inches); or add a '68 Shelby hood scoop separately (who would make that--Maier Racing?)

And, of course, you could just go all out, and put a '68 Shelby nose and hood on. THAT would look cool, with a blower hiding in there.

The truth is, I don't want a scoop if I can fit the blower under the hood. I want it to have an "original" look. If the blower doesn't fit under the hood, then I'd like to use a hood that could have been made for a GT/CS.

If you use a hood scoop will you use a hood with or without turn signals?

I would use the standard hood w/out turn signals, since that is the way the CJs came from the factory. I, of course, would store the original hood.

What type of supercharger are you planning to install? If hood clearance is an important concern (along with CS "originality"), there are different types of blowers that are available which some have lower profiles than others.

You should check with Bluto, I believe he once posted a pic showing his blower (Paxton?) and I think he's using the standard CS hood :).

That is a nice setup!

I, however, have a fondness for roots type blowers. I have already purchased a Holley 174, that is a low-profile blower. It may fit under the hood. I have received conflicting information.

I'm having the engine built with the Holley blower, so I'm just researching options in the event that it won't fit under the hood.
