I picked up a long block 302 on craigslist last week for parts. The casting is C8AM-6012-d. From what I can see its out of a 1968 full size ford, but unclear as to the "M" as reference to performance. thanks Dwayne
Not familiar with that casting number. Typical 1968 302 engine blocks have casting numbers like C8OE-6015-A, C8OE-6015-B.
Yours may be a service block. What is the casting date? Do you know what to look for? Should be smaller numbers with what may look like screw heads at the beginning and end. 7M12, 8B5, 8D23, anything like that?
The C8AM was the first and lesser known Mexican "hipo" before the more common D1ZM. They were installed in some trucks built for US production and have the similar heavy main caps to the C5OE hipo 289
