I've never had a CS with the upper console. Since there is no dome light, are the 2 map lights supposed to act as interior lights when a door is open? Or are they strictly On/Off with the map light switches?

Hmm... with an upper console there's no interior/courtesy light when opening a door. So the alternative would be to install under-dash courtesy lights operated by the door switch(es). Or possibly install a circuit to turn on the map lights with the door switch.

Neil,
My GNS has the full courtesy group, plus door lights. So does Val's Fastback, which also has the upper console. Hate to leave the door open for any length of time. Runs the battery down darn fast!!

Neil,
Most cars that had a upper console had a lower console that had a light at the rear. The under dash lights are easy. Just get some lights and plug them in as the wireing is all ready there. Now Neil arn't you suppose to be working on Peggy's T bird? I am sure you know by now happy wife = happy life!
Good luck Marty

Yes there should be a two little, single plug pig tails that are powered when the doors are open. Find some under dash lights, screw and plug them in and you are good to go. No additional wiring necessary.

The underdash socket to attatch the courtesy lights should be black with a blue stripe.

No, I meant mine has the lights, no need to add. Thought they were standard items...

As noted plug in and screw tot he dash, done... easy add on, but I do not think the lamp sockets are reprodcued? Only the retainer?

Your correct, I have only seen the retainers. But I have had luck purchasing other '68 Ford 'courtesy lights' which are not exactly the same but since they are under the dash, they can not be seen and they have the same connectors.

Are the brackets above the headliner? What do the brackets connect to? What is the best way to install a overhead console in a car that didn't have one?

Attached is the pic of the bracket that goes under the headliner and screws to the front window seam, the back of the overhead consoles just screws into the top edge of the back window seam. I also attached a pic of the Ford diagram.
