Mudflaps Anyone?

I've got a bit of a quandry. I'm thinking about putting mudflaps on my vehicle. Not because I want to, but because in the last month I've had the car, I've already had to make several chip repairs. Out here in West Texas there's a problem with a lot of rocks and junk on the roads. Problem is that my car has an acrylic finish and it chips easier than the candy shell of an M+M--it's like glass. I'm getting frustrated and have considered the flaps. Anybody out there using them? (I won't ask if you've got the flaps with the chrome ladies on them). Robb

How about using the 3M stuff used for bras? Car bras!!!! And, yes, I know that I used "stuff" and "bra" in the same sentence.

The clear stuff dealers put on the fronts of almost all new cars. It comes in sheet form and just sticks on. Should be able to get a sheet and cut it up.

They actually sell that stuff for everyday use.

You can get it for your headlights (pre cut to match) or to cover the front of your car for chips. Like an invisible bra. I forget what they call it but it's out there.

Probably more permanent then you might want for the GT/CS

I had it replaced on the front of my G35. It comes off with a heat gun or maybe a real hot hair dryer.

There is also a clear texture "paint" that you spray on, but don't plan on ever taking it off. It's the same stuff they put on the rocker panels of some new cars and trucks. NAPA sells it in a rattle can but I can't remember the exact name at the moment.

Flapper

Hey Rob

I have flaps , no chrome ladies . just plain old black rubber but they are unobtrusive and do the job according to the former Texas owner.

Thanks for the input. I may give the 3M product a try. Hey Bandit, do you have front and back flaps.....Now knowing what I know about my paint finish, maybe I should have waited for a car that had a clearcoat finish. But I do like how the acrylic finish looks on the car. I imagine at some point I'll have to take it in and say, "Bud, I don't want the whole car repainted, just the sixty eraser-sized chips...I may have mentioned it in an earlier thread, but after two weeks, I refinished my GT slotted wheels. Went with the Argent paint and repro trim rings and GT inserts. Cost me about 350.00 total. The Air Force base I'm at has an Auto Skills hobby center that has everything a car repair place has including the balancer. Took a few hours, but those puppies really dress up my gal. Guess I'll have to update my Gallery...Robb

These are photos from the day I received my special. It had the chrome flaps at all four wheel wells. I haven't decided if I want to refurbish them and reinstall them yet. No mud flap ladies but this should give you a good idea of what they would look like.

The best way I have seen to install a temporary mud flap is to use some black spring type office binder clips. It's easy to attach a mud flap to the inner fender lip and still remove it for shows. This way you don't have to drill any holes either.

Now there's a good idea. Some of those real small binder clips are incredibly strong, too.
