1968 Mystery Motor

I bought my GTCS about 4 years ago and finally looked at the engine serial number. to my dismay it doesn't match the car. I would like to find out what year and type of car it came out of and if was originally built as a 289 or 302.

Engine Serial No. 184521621 stamped into top of block.

Casting No. 0/C80E-6015A 8K15 above starter. My research indicates that the block is a 302 block made in Cleveland.

Please help me with my Mystery Motor.

That is a 1968/69 302 but I think there is one too many digits stamped on the top of the block. The first digit should be an 8 or a 9, and the second digit should be a letter. Is it possible to post a photo of that number?

If the number starts "8F" (or 8R, etc,) instead of 184, it's from a 1968 Mercury product.

My Pony may be powered by a Cat. I took a picture of my non matching engine serial number and now it reads "9H524624" (see picture). In my research I found statements that say FORDs used 1000001 to 4999999 and Mercury used 500001 and up. Since 524624 is greater the largest FORD number the engine is from a Mercury. "9" equals 1969 and "H" equals an August production month. What I won't to know is what specific car the engine cam out of? Thanks, greencsmachine

Looks like 9U524624. Not an H. Their was an old assembly plant in Louisville. This character is not a month code but an assembly plant code. May have been a truck or full size Ford motor.
