ford told me every 5000 miles, but mine was getting dirty at around 4000, so i changed it. i have been told to stay with the manufactures recommendations on oil, they have engineered the motors for the specific weight. i run 20/50 in my 69 cobra with the 454 ford engine, but if i used the 20/50 in my 08 that it wouldn't oil right, to heavy of oil,

I do oil & filter @ 3,000 miles religiously. Remember that old TV oil filter commercial, "Pay me now, or pay me later."? I consider it low cost preventative maintenance. Plus it gives me the chance to get under the car and eyeball things.

Hi Gang,

I follow the mfg. weight (5-30, 10-30 or whatever) but NOT the recommended interval. I change oil every 3,000 miles OR 3 month's which ever comes first, without fail.
I do use synthetic in some cars (again following the mfg recommendations)and that interval can be extended to 5,000 miles. I ALWAYS change the filter when I change the oil.

I used to use heavier weight oil but was told the "newer" engines are designed for lighter weight oil (oil pumps and engines passages) Ya get better MPG with a little lighter weight oil also.

Have fun! Dave

I dropped my oil at 500 miles and switched to Mobil one with a K&N gold oil filter. Now I'll go every 3,000 hereafter. I'm going to switch to the Ford racing filter however.

i got an oil change today. I run redline 10W-30 Synthetic. 7 Quarts @ $10 per + the Lucas Oil Additive $18.95 + an FRA-1 Filter $6.95 + tax = $100. The last oil change i had was June 4, 2007 and since then i put only 1600 miles on the CS, but changed the oil anyways due to the fact that its almost been a year on that oil and im going racing and want the cs to be in top shape.

I must have an odd car because when I changed mine at 500 miles it only took 6 quarts of oil. I used the Motorcraft 5w20 and I will use it again at 1500. I will wait till 3000 then the car gets 5w20 Amsoil.
