One more time...any requests for book content?

I know I've asked this before, but I'd like to see if anyone has any specific requests for what you'd like to see in the upcoming GT/CS book. The book will see full time from me beginning next month-- August. Anything you can think of....

Here is a very sketchy outline:

History
Production
Marketing/Sales
Recognition / Options
Concours Restoration (very detailed)
Registry (w/photos)
appendix: Lil Red, Green Hornet. 2007-08 GT/CS

(about 200 pages)

thanks!
Paul.

Export section ??????????

I reckon an international flavour would be good , whilst they are homegrown they have managed to populate some far away places.

By the way MOCA-Queensland has 2 CS on their books , not sure if you have any details about them ?

Just going by what has been done in other books.

1. Calif Spec - Toys, models (older stuff not meant to be a sales tool for present stuff)

2. Manuals (like the three or four typically found in the dash originally)

3. Recalls and or TSB's for Calif Specials or just the model year

4. List of running changes

Sure you will be including some of the dealership ads and such ... different from earlier books.

Just a couple of thoughts

Good ideas, Jeff!
I'll do the recalls on the seats, and the Marchal lights. I want to do a suspension/underbody chart with colors, and specs, then the factory paint dabs.

I was going to include some sort of basic "where are they now" map of the world... I have three cars from OZ, and one or two in NZ. One in England, and two in Sweden...among many out there.

and I was going to do some sort of "flow chart" production breakdown, by engine, then trans, then interior, then colors, etc...(like they do in "Wired" magazine.

This will probably be the most documented production Mustang ever.

Paul.

Are you including a picture of the author on the back? That would be nice.

Marchals?

I would like to know if there is enough time to research the Marchal 653/656 issues. There are a few owners with original lights that claim both are original. Can we take a poll and find out?

Paul,
Will this be a glossy, colorful, hard bound, "coffee table" book? or will it be spiral bound like the original or soft cover like the 96? I only ask cause I'm a big fan of color photos as reference material...

Paul;
Can't remember if I sent you a copy of the letter from Greenlight on the CS Diecast or not for the registry. Do you need a copy and if so do you want it mailed or can I email a photo of it to you?

Your welcome Paul, I really think with all the work you are doing to gather information for this book, your picture should be on the back with a short autobiography. Unless you think it would be better on the inside like you said.

By the way, how is Marchal pronounced? I guess I have always pronounced it like "markal" but I have heard it pronounced like "marshal".

Oh, Hi Don,
I'm as anxious as everyone else to get one of those cool models!
Sure--you can snail mail the info to me. Nothing here so far.
Thanks again!

Rich--thanks for the race program...

And Rhonda, "Marchal" is pronounced "Mar-shaaal". It's French. They made the first halogen fogs/driving lights out there. That is why they were used on the early Ferrari and Ford GT MkIII, the European Ford Capri, and was rated as the brightest in Europe and UK at that time.

These bright lights (in '68) caught the State of Calif off guard. The CHP hadn't really set up testing for fogs--yet. Then they yelled at Shelby, and they were dropped. "Shelby" also got "yelled at" in a meeting at the Capitol (Sacto) for the inboard headlights and the side scoop running llights on the '67 Shelby--according to Fred Goodell. The state bureaucrats claimed that Shelby was being used by Ford to "sneak" this stuff through for their future production cars.

No, Rhonda...I get asked that more often then you'd think...

Right now folks are secretly reading this and discovering...oh, THAT"s how it's pronounced...I thought it was Mark-AL.

book

When do you expect the book to be available Paul? I'm new to the forum, and I have been looking for an original copy. But it is eluding me. I do have the 2nd volume (spiral bound book), but not the first. I just purchased a 1968 GT Hardtop (not a CS though). I thought this was a good place to gather general information about the 1968 Mustang. Thanks so much. Looking forward to the book. Print A LOT of them!!!!

I'm working very hard to get this out by the fall. It will have even MORE information than the previous books--combined! Lots of production numbers, breakdowns of items, etc....and more resto info, for concours. It should be a great book for not only the coupes, but for ALL '68 Mustangs (especially the San Jose produced ones). This will be like a '68 GT/CS-HCS (& Coupe) "bible".

I'm looking at a hardbound book with slipcase...
