Helping a friend with zero money to get his old 1985 Cheby Truck running. He blew up the original 305 CU motor and AOD. Got a fresh 350 given to him by another friend and had a Turbo 400 gone through only to find out it was to short. Truck has set for 8 years..... Story of Rob's life lately.
Tried to figure out the best way forward. Source a two piece drive line, carrier bearing, and cross member. Or source the proper tranny to fit his configuration. My Cheby guys were little help. Found a nice article on the net and a medium shaft turbo 350 is a bolt in.
So on to Craig's list for a couple months. Finally found a Turbo 350 that I hoped had some life in it. Guy seemed ok and his shop was nice. Got it all together after a bunch of wiring issues and old gas and blah blah blah....
Tranny went 20 miles and crapped out. Dropped pan and new filter was plugged, looked like water was in the fluid and some clutch facing in the bottom......
So just installed a rebuilt Turbo 350 in her. Blew down the cooler for the second time... New fuel pump and away we will go. got about $1,400.00 in the resurrection just in parts and the tranny. Oh well, my cup runneth over in my life!!!
Check out my new Christmas present from Val. My best friend Steve who towed me back from the tranny death and myself are enjoying a cold one in class with my new table and chair.
