As you all know, I don't go to many shows, but I went to one yesterday put on by a local muffler shop because it was for charity. I took first in the "60's Stock" class with the CS. Something else to give to one of the grandkids.

Really haven't showed a car for a couple of years. I find them too long, too hot, too many people touching my car, etc. I usually go without showing a car and get the opportunity to walk around, talk with folks and leave when I want.

Today, though, I went to the Louisville (Co) 15th annual car show and won a first place in the muscle car division.

Also, drove over to the Shelby American museum (in Boulder) the other day and took a picture.

Dave - I fully understand not hanging around all day at car shows with everyone touching and feeling but when you do show it it's nice to win.

''BTW" I noticed that you have a 64 vette - is it a convertible? If so have you every replaced the back window in the hardtop? What should I watch out for?

Thanks

...I too can relate David. I'm definitely entering the "been there done that" phase w/ car shows having saturated the local ones over the years and having nothing esteemed out-of-towners need to see... Plus - pallin' around with Renee & watching her collect all the beans over the past year :) Don't get me wrong tho.... I always love seeing my good friends fight the good fight and WIN!

CONGRATULATIONS!!
:)

If you like vintage racing and 1962-67 Shelby cars, that is a must see for anyone in the Denver area.

If I had not previously visited that museum, it would definitely be on my bucket list.

Not really a "win" per se ...

... but we had a great time up in Kamloops at their "Hot Nites Show and Shine" in August. They just posted some photos on their website from the Poker Run portion of the event, and here are the shots of our GT/CS as we were running round picking up cards to make our poker hand.
The last two shots were taken at the "wrap up party" that was held at the last stop of the poker run, one of the local A&W restaurants.
We'll be going back again next year!

Thanks ...

Thanks for that ... we had a "blast" and thoroughly enjoyed the entire event. We were the only 68 GT/CS at the event of about 600 cars, and had many great comments on our car. Most people weren't aware that there were big block GT/CS's out there at all. We let several kids (and adults) sit in the car for "photo ops", and again they were surprised that we'd let them do it at all! The obvious enjoyment that they got from an opportunity to get a photo with a "fantasy car" was more than enough encouragement for us, so for most of the day I'd ASK anyone that showed a serious interest in the car if they would like to have a photo taken with the car. Our GT/CS is no "trailer queen" ... we drive it often and enjoy having friends and family along for the ride.

Mileage ...

By the way, we drove a total of 653 miles over the four day trip, from Victoria up to Kamloops, around town for the events, and then back to Victoria again, and averaged 14.53 miles per gallon for the whole trip. (The new Edlebrock dual plane intake manifold helped on the mileage I think ...)

That is real good with a big block. I do not get a lot better with the 289. Marty

I agree ...

Yeah, I thought it was great mileage too! I really think that the new intake manifold made a big difference and we got much better mileage than with the old manifold. My mechanic friend Chris also did a quick rebuild on the carb when he swapped out the manifold too (its a 650 double pumper) and I'm sure that didn't hurt either.
Next year's work list will include a new radiator (probably an aluminum cored unit) and a shroud, as when we were in heavy traffic engine heat was a bit of a problem. She ran really hot when we were stuck in traffic!

If it never boils over I would test the temp with a laser tester. The old senders and gages are not real accurate. Marty

Indeed, 390s do not like sitting in traffic. I made the mistake of putting mine in a July 4 parade with dignitaries riding along. It was a 100-degree day and the needle pegged. She didn't boil over, but I ran the heater & fan full tilt to help keep her cool.

The other 'S' would heat up at idle even after a new radiator & shroud until I replaced the fan clutch. She now runs cool no matter what the conditions. Everything has to work together on these big block '68s...

A little off topic, but my church puts on a car show for charity every year. I was parking cars and an older guy pulls up in a 71 Mach 1, Q code with ram air---painted Dusty Rose. After he parked, I started talking to him, being a '71-3 fan myself and it turns out he's Lois Emminger's son. She bought the car when she worked at Ford and had it painted from white to the "pink" color because she liked it. I gave him some info he was wondering about, and my phone number, and told him to call sometime. I just thought it was kinda cool.

As I read the above eMail I recognized the name Lois Eminger - but not from where; so I goggled it and thought that I share it.

Eminger Invoices

Lois Eminger worked for Ford Motor Company. Being a car person herself, she wisely asked that she be able to keep batches of invoices that Ford was preparing to destroy. These invoices included some of the most popular cars of the 60s and 70s. Marti Auto Works has now purchased these invoices and is making them available to rightful owners of cars. We only have what is in the following list. No other invoices are available, so please don't ask. If we knew of anyone that had them, we'd tell you. If your car is not on the list below, but it is a 67-73 model, consider clicking on the links on the left to learn about our report information.

These are the original documents that were used by Ford for billing to the dealer. They contain the complete option list and, generally, the wholesale and retail costs of the base vehicle, all options, and shipping. The original dealer the vehicle was shipped to is also included on the invoice along with the trim code, date the invoice was prepared, and several other items. In rare cases, the original invoice may have been sold previously. A copy would be available. We will contact you to see if you want a copy should this apply to you. To see a sample, click on this link. Invoices will be shipped priority mail with delivery confirmation. Please note with the increasing value of these cars that many of these vehicles are now no longer just fun, vintage cars. Some of these vehicles are becoming part of Automotive History. As such, the paperwork becomes an important part of that history. If you purchase any paperwork, please use adequate care to preserve it for posterity. Some day, Ken Burns IV may be doing a special on your car and it would be nice to provide him with the original sales invoice for the sake of filming (or holographing)!

Requirements: You must provide copy of title or registration in the name of the buyer – no exceptions. Payment must be made in advance. You must mail or fax in your order. Mail to:

Nice job Jbart, car looked awesome! Need to get that sweet thing next to your Mustang fixed up and painted and ready for next year and then maybe you can win new and old muscle.

Canadian Tire / Victoria Mustang club show & shine today ...

We had some beautiful weather today for our Canadian Tire / Victoria Mustang Club Show and Shine event held here in Victoria. For a small show we had a large turnout of cars and spectators, with some awesome rides showing up for display. The Canadian Tire auto shop manager Scott and two of his mechanics did a walk around looking over the cars on display and did the judging for the event. All three of them picked our big block GT/CS as their favorite and we won "Best in Show"!
