Looking for a stock brake proportion valve for front disk/ rear drum system.
I'm installing a MPB converson kit. This picture shows the original and then the one included in my front disk kit. It's huge!!!
Both pieces are the same distance from the camera in the photo.
If anyone can help please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
Once I have finished the installation and actually get it on the road to test, I will post results and thoughts in restoration referrence.
Bill

Bill: I have the same distribution block. I had to mount it vertically because the horizontal position makes it really difficult to run the brake lines. Also, I didn't get a new plug adaptor for the brake light indicator. Have you figured that one out? Let me know how you did this. Also, it you are running front disks and rear drum brakes, you'll need a 10 pound conpensation valve to the rear brakes. Sounds like a great project. Let us know how it goes.

Steve,
Youv'e got the same big monster?
For the brake light indicator are you talking about the plug that operates the light in the dash that tells you one end (front/rear) is not working correctly? My kit came with the this plug and tells you how to wire it into your existing system. It also has a spring/compensation valve already installed in the proportioning valve with a note to remove the valve for disk/disk cars. I've attached the sheet included with the kit.

Thanks for the info Bill. My kit didn't come with a plug. I emailed MPBrakes and they didn't reply to my inquiry. Thanks for this info, looks like there's a part # indicated that I can order.

Steve,
Give MPB a call at 888-351-8785. I have called several times and have found them to be very helpful and easy to work with.

Can anybody tell me what the cylinder at the left hand side of this photo is and if it is still available anywhere?

my CJ has the cylinder attached to it, I assume it is part of the assembly but I just don't know it's function. I assume my other cars have it as well.

To me it looks like something to change the pressure between the 2 ports. Can't think of any other reason it would tie right back into the block.

that sounds right to me. I remember messing with mine for something and my mechanic mentioning he could change the front to back pressure, meaning the front would grab harder than the rear.

I was thinking a stock unit would bolt right in as it is a disc/drum set up. Wow, too many options to set up a stock unit without having the car in running condition to test as I go. Sounds like I am best to stay with the "big ugly" that was provided. It may be big and ugly but it is designed to work with my system and I don't want any ugly surprises.
I have this dream that one day I will be able to get in the car, turn the key and drive away, having everything work right the first time. Yea! that will be great when that happens!
Thanks for your help guys.
Cheers

The long cylinder was the original proportiong valve for 1968, the block was then called the distribution block. The proportioning valve design was changed and improved in 1970 I believe. This is the part Mike had mentioned, if the vehicle needed a Ford replacement part after 1970 the small square proportioning valve was utilized.

Back in 2000 I replaced my complete brake system on my GT/CS, then Mustangs Unlimited still had factory Ford proportioning valves for about $70.00. Well I just had to have a factory NOS part for my rebuild, and there was no picture with the ad. When I got my order I thought a mistake was made. It was a square valve in a factory ford box with two short lines, the instructions explained the change in design, and stated that for Mustangs the lines would have to be bent to fit this small valve. I modified my lines to hook up to the valve and it has worked well ever since. I checked Mustangs Unlimited, and they no longer have the factory valves. Now if you want to replace just the valve you have to get one of those blocks with the adjustment knob to fine tune the brakes.

It appears to me that the new unit that you have is bigger because the proportioning valve is built into the distribution block. Am I correct on that thought. That sounds like a good thing, you just have to make it fit.

I think you are exactly correct. I'll stay with the provided unit.
Thanks All

I just received the CJ Pony Parts catalog; these people have absolutely everything!

The catalog shows '68-'70 distribution blocks but whether or not they are for disc/drum setups is not clear. Part 2B075C $84.95
