1968 Ref: 1968 GT/CS Mustangs

Fellow GT/CS'ers,

Can anyone clarify this, were 1968 GT Mustangs in particular California Specials only J codes or were they also C codes as well??

Arlie is absolutely correct. The GT could only be ordered with a 302, 390 or 428.

Did'nt the 302 have to have a 4V carb to be a GT?

According to Marti Auto Works data, there were 313 GT/CS-HCS cars built with the GT package. 297 GT/CSs, and 16 HCS. As stated above, The 302 4-V engine was minimum requirement for the GT option, therefor, no C code 289 2-V cars had the GT option.

If you are looking for 1968 GT optioned Mustangs, whether they are a California Special or not, you should review this thread. It is another clue to whether the 1968 GT you are looking at is a clone or not. It has not been 100 percent proven, but IMO it is a solid thing to look for.

True. Weren't there something like a total of 3 Mustang F-codes produced in 1968?

I do not know the exact number but it was small. Kevin Marti could probably could tell you how many were made.
