1968 Stripe location

I am replacing the white stripes with original black stripes. I measured the location of the current stripes and they are slightly different side to side.
I want to see if someone has information on the correct location to be sure.
I am thinking it should be consistent from the body line or bottom edge or both.

The GT/CS books by Paul Newitt have precise diagrams for placement.

Damn! How did I miss that?
Time for some new glasses

Thanks Neil!

The current ones are between 8 1/2 and 9 to the bottom of the door. The book says they should be 9 1/2.

I found some of the diagrams in the book to be inaccurate when I restored our first HCS. I have a unrestored HCS with it's original strips, What measurements are you looking for?
I would not be surprised given the assembly line pace that there were small variations in locations.

Thanks Marty.
These are not original as the car has been repainted and I believe the original stripes were black to match the original vinyl top.
I am putting a black top back on with the black stripes.

If you could verify the door stripe to bottom of the door and to the body line. That should be a good start and also verify if the mesaurements in Paul's book are accurate\close.

Agreed that the assembly line procudures could result in a good bit of variances.

IMO the critical measurements are at the headlights and the scoops.

Here are the dimensions from our 68 unrestored HCS. As I suspected there is quite a bit of variation. The book is pretty close, I just could not use #2 & #3. I found it better just to follow the contour of the fender flare.
I'll post a picture out of the book so the diagram can be used to follow my dimensions.

LH 1. 3.375 RH 1. 3.625
2. 9.0 / 2.75 2. 7.25 / 2.5
3. 7.5 / 3.25 3. 5.0 / 2.75
4. 3.75 4. 4.5
5. 4.0 5. 4.625
6. 4.5 6. 4.625
7. 3.0 7. 3.25
8. 3.375 8. 3.5
9. 9.5 9. 9.0
10. 4.25 10. 3.875

Top of deck lid .50

Bottom of deck lid 3.62

It is very important to have all of your panels adjusted to their optimum fit as this will affect the stripe dimensions.
Hope this helps
Marty
