One side on my CS has a rubber strip on the underside of the deck. Was this provided from the factory to prevent the two fiberglass parts banging together, or a PO modification....???

Yes, it was installed at the factory.
I think it was to help seal the lid.

X3 what they said. It's actually a good indicator of an original untouched GT/CS or HCS because people who create clones almost never go to such a level of detail that they would replace these.

Yep, looks like pretty typical foam tape, medium density. I can measure it up tomorrow and will post dimensions....I'm guessing about 3/4" wide x 5" long by 3/16" thick...

Here are a couple more shots of the foam padding. The white one is an original T code I looked at for a fellow member a couple of years ago. The red car is Bob Teets' 428 CJ HCS. Maybe Bob can post up where he got the foam tape (or how he made it).

Pretty good guess! 5" long, 3/4" wide, 1/8" thick. As it is 40+ years old I'd say 3/16" original uncompressed is still a good bet.

Typical gray, one side sticky, medium density foam tape.

Had a strip of almost identical foam in the garage. The "originals" appear to have been ripped from a roll, ragged ends, not sure how Ford did it, but a bit rough.
