The did not come standard with a trunk light, however they have a small square cut out in the upper left corner of the lid where the light goes.

Makes sense. I saw the cut out and thought exactly that. Think I'll throw a flashlight into trunk...it would be easier!!

Yeah, IIRC those lights are activated by a mercury switch- and if it malfunctions it keeps the trunk light on, and you end up with a dead Battery.:icon_dead

Nope, no Mercury switch on the originals. Common misconception.

Had to have the door open and it was wired into the dome light circuit.

I have the trunk and under hood light as original equipment on our 67 GTA, I think they were part of the visibility group. Neil is correct they are mercury controlled switches. The 68 GT350 is too. They are all wired to hot leads.
I think I may have a extra trunk light around. Marty

On the left side of the trunk compartment, there is a spring loaded pin that sticks up. It gets pushed down when trunk is closed and springs up when trunkis opened. Its not attached to anything at present, was it a switch that would've turned off the trunk light?

@neil...i finally got 2 different sized "c" clips to secure my hood pins. I struggled mightily with the ones you sent but COULDN'T get them on!! I had vice grips on them prying them apart but they just would not cooperate!!

That may be the remnants of an alarm system.

Does it look something like this?

Guess mine was mis-wired in the past. Point on the switch was it is not a separate item, but internal to the assembly, it can't be replaced... saw another post a while ago of someone looking for the mercury switch, which doesn't exist as a separate item...
