1968 What is the value of my X code GT/CS?

I have a rust-free unrestored "X" code car that is 99% complete and runs and drives. I have realized that due to some home remodeling projects that I may have to sell the car so I can finish without killing my savings. I know that you guys can't give me an exact value of the car, but I am looling for a ballpark. The car was in storage from 1986 until I got it recently (Dec 2010) and I got it running. The car is a time capsule with one older repaint but otherwise all original with 104,000 miles. I really had no intention of selling the car and I hope I don't have too. Any input would be great. The Marti Report is posted and you guys helped with the question about the 6000rpm tach in another post. I will try to get the car out of the garage with some better photos in the next couple weeks.

Thanks, Jim

25-27?

$4-5000 paintjob and a freshning of the engine compartment for $3000 would make it pretty nice.

Are you saying a nice painted, detailed car is in the 25-27 thousand range? I know that this car is worth more finished but I am trying to figure what it's worth unrestored.

Your car is 1 of 477 with those engine/transmission codes, that seems rare. Also, it originally came with the GT equipment group option and headrests. That'll add some value.

The Marti report show the car to be 1 of 477 coupes built with the "X" code engine. I have read on a website that there was only 76 GT/CS cars built with the "X" code 390 engine. Does anyone know if this is true?

Correct. 76 GT/CSs with the X-code engine. Probably 477 regular coupes with the X-code.

I'd give you $20K for it as is. ;-)

I was going to sell my car a year ago this may to purchase a 68 Shelby, then we abruptly bought a house in Phoenix. I was looking at around 27K for a similiar car except my interior and engine have been rebuilt.

Thank You everyone for the input. I am getting into some major bathroom renovations and it seems they snowball a lot like restoring an old car. I am going to get some good pictures of the car and I think I have a good idea of a fair asking price.

If you check the "Classified" you will see a X code sold on eBay last week in the 28K range. It was little bit cleaner not sure if it had GT option stock. Nice ride...
