You know how the mechanics on all those restoration programs and YouTube videos smack a suspension or steering part with two hammers and it falls right off. Well, in the real world that's not even remotely true, at least not on original parts. I don't even try anymore; just grab the pickle fork and the 2# hammer.

This is my second '68 in a row that's had original steering parts. Is this fairly common?

Hey! be careful what you say about those 50 year old parts. LOL

Often they are better than those made in China.

That’s for sure. I think even Moog now uses Chinese suppliers for some of their parts.

I had a "new" lower control arm fail within 500 miles on my GT/CS. Moog parts do come out of China these days, but built to a higher standard I believe..... I hope.....

50 year old C4 A/T leaks:

Red fluid on the floor? I bought a seal kit for the linkages that leak where the shifter seals leak on the side of the transmission. (E-bay, Pro's Choice Transmission Parts) It includes the O-ring seals & pan gasket. I also bought a 'girdle' that fits around the transmission pan. (Bronco Graveyard P/N 11105) The girdle re-enforces the pan flange area that usually gets over torqued, distorting the flat mating surface. There's a good video on Youtube that addresses C4 A/T leaks.
$30+/-, 1 hour labor. No more leaks.

I'm so sad that I'm old enough to know who Marcus Welby is!

That isn't old. I remember the reruns, back when Marcus Welby was on that other show with the three kids. What were their names? Bud, Princess, and Kitten?

Have any of you seen this before? It’s a spacer or a cushion on the top of the driver’s coil spring.

And whoever cut the spring cut the wrong end, and installed it upside down.

Spring Rubber

YES!!

That is a Nascar style spring rubber. They stiffen the spring. In short, someone put a bandaid on the spring. Not good for the long haul. A proper spring is in order.
