Just got it. Had some ?
fiberglass deck lid spoiler? this must mean the deck with the soiler built in it?
fiberglass lower back panels?
rectang fog lamps? thses were not on the car when I bought it 13 years ago how do you know which ones you had?
funct louverd hood/ is this the turn singals in the hood/
body side tape? what color? can you tell from paint color?
Report says gt equipment group? what does this include?
convenience group?
cosoled ? i have it
this car was in primmer when I bought it. I bought it when I was 22 I am 35 now and own 2 other mustangs a 1970 mach 1 428scj 4 speed drag pack v code and a 1965 2+2 fastback a code 4 speed. the above cars are all original.
I do not know alot about gt/cs cars. Over the years I have tried to get the car painted, most of the body shops ripped me off, The current shop it is at has done a great job on the car, the paint is class a I have spent $18k on just paint and body(the body was in great shape)
I never had the original drive train.a/c ,fog lamps ect... Some one at one time was trying to change the car to a standard coupe, not knowing what the car was. I bought it and picked up the pieces, the car has a 347 block in it that is built up with afr heads ect... all the good stuff no $$ spared here, a 5 speed tko 650. I had the engine compartment paint the same color as the car.( this was stupid but an easy fix) The car is Brittany blue which is the correct color, the inside is blue which is correct.
I would like to drive the car for awhile, but would like to start collecting the block, tranny,a/c and all the other parts that were missing off the car when I got it.
Although a really nice car with over $45k in it, I still know that it is not what it was from ford and would like it to be original.
The build date of the car is 4/3/68 if any body has a date code block /tranny ect please email me. also looking for fog lamps?
I will post in parts for these

I'll try to answer as many of your questions as I can:
I'm not sure where you got the info for some of your questions but I'll interpret the best I can as well.

fiberglass deck lid spoiler? this must mean the deck with the soiler built in it?
Yes, this is the same rear deck lid as the Shelby convertibles

fiberglass lower back panels?
Not sure what you meant here but the rear quarter extensions are fiberglass

rectang fog lamps? thses were not on the car when I bought it 13 years ago how do you know which ones you had?
You don't really know which you had but based on the manufacture date you could assume what it started with.
Marchal's were original and then there was a recall on them due to a determination that they weren't street legal (or something to that effect). They were replaced at the dealers with Lucas light on posts, from that point forward Lucas came from the factory.

funct louverd hood/ is this the turn singals in the hood/
Yes

body side tape? what color? can you tell from paint color?
Not really. I don't know that there has been a definitive rule of what color stripes were on the car. Some assumptions are the interior had something to do with stripe choice. But alot of different interiors had white stripes.

Report says gt equipment group? what does this include?
I'd have to go look this up for specifics. Maybe someone else knows off the top of their head.
Dual Exhaust, rear valance with cutouts for the exhaust, GT hubcaps and I think upgraded suspension

convenience group?
not sure what this included. Or are you asking if that was included in the GT package?

cosoled ? i have it
Console could be upper, lower or both I believe

The current shop it is at has done a great job on the car, the paint is class a I have spent $18k on just paint and body(the body was in great shape)

For my own curiousity, could you explain what you spent $18,000 on if the body was already in great shape. What was the breakdown of paint vs bodywork out of curiousity? I'm sure it's safe to say that 90+% of us didn't spend $18,000 for our whole car. I've been looking to possibly repaint my current CS but have been looking at a 1/3 to 1/2 of that for paint and some body work.

Although a really nice car with over $45k in it, I still know that it is not what it was from ford and would like it to be original.
That's a considerable investment for a car you're looking to "restore" to original. Would love to see pics of the current and finished product. Please post some if you can.

Lastly, Good Luck with the car and Welcome to the world of GT/CS ownership (although techinically you've been part if of it for many years)!!

Wow,
That’s a lot of questions.

Trunk lid and end caps are fiberglass, with a built in spoiler.
Fiberglass taillight panel with Shelby style “taillights”. Identical to 1964 t-bird.
Lucas or Marchal. If the “grill mouth” has holes in it straight down, it should have had Lucas fog lights. Grill still should have approx 2 inch wide steel mounts that protrude forward through it.
Louvered hood is the turn signal hood.
Tape color is difficult. I think white on this car. Others in the site please help!
Convenience group is 4 lights above the radio. Seatbelt light, door ajar, low gas, and emergency brake on.
Lower console is an option. Upper console denotes deluxe interior.

Rest of the car stuff sounds cool to me. Lots of power and what a great tranny. I would drive it and love it!! But that’s me, I have a need for speed!!!

Build it your way and enjoy!!!

Rich was right on!!

GT was watered down by 1968. Usually means all the Rich said, and a good clue is a 1 inch front sway bar.

If it has the upper console it should be a deluxe interior. Meaning woodgrain applique on the door panels and dash. Special chrome buttons in the center of the upper seat. Longer arm rests.

Great link Arlie!!

Some of the early 68 GT's could have leftover GT gas caps from 67 Mustangs. Black inlay instead of red on the letters. The earlier the GT (65) the more impressive the list was. Had to be an "A" code or "K" code to have the package in 65. And in 65 you got the 5 dial instrument cluster. Front disc brakes was a predominant option you got. As it went forward through the years the options diminished. By 67 it could be on any engine package. By 68 discs were not part of the option.

how do you post pics here?
I will be glad to post pictures of the car, it is not done yet but really close. For all that asked how you get $18K IN PAINT
I THINK TODAY TO RESTORE A CAR IT REALLY COST ABOUT $40K- $50K
THIS MEANS TAKING THE CAR APART ALL THE WAY
IT IS WHAT MOST WOULD SAY A NUT AND BOLT RESTO, You can eat off the bottom of this car. I started this car before I bought the others I have. Never having the original car together or to see what it really came with there is no telling besides a marti report and this forum. I did with the car what I wanted. I wish now I would have restored it to original. But at the time I wanted a muscle car, A 302 with 230hp ,auto with a 3:25 standard rear end aint much muscle. My 1965 2+2 4 speed would have kick the crap out of this cs when i had it on the road, it really was a dog. Remember I was 22 years old. When I bought the 428scj it opened my eyes to what I really had.(428 scj fuel pumps date code correct are going for $1000) At least I have all the parts that I got with the car, and painted it the correct color. It will look stock until you open the hood( well and look at the 5 speed.
By the way I am getting the info for my ? from the Matri report I received today.
The car has all its running gear installed and drives, it is completely painted . It is going back to the body shop to bolt on front fenders and the hood. Then glass will go in and interior(which is a mess right now).
I am leaving the original gt wheels on the car. The rear end gear has been changed to a 3:73 and it is now posi.
I have well over $20k in running gear.
The car should be around 375 hp at the rear wheels when done. It will run off 91 octane

Welcome Limp1969, are you sure what you have is a Kevin Marti report? What you have seems more like the invoice for the car. Sounds like alot of options though. Please post this report, it will be interesting to see. Pics too please :) In 1968, a Mustang had to have a 302 4 barrell or larger engine to come with the GT Equipment group option. Having the GT option will add extra value to your car.

i dont know how to post pics? I will if some can tell me
It is an elite marti with the invoice. The bad part about the car is I do not have the original block. I have started another thread asking if the blocks were all vin stamped or were some just date code like cj cars

To post them on this thread, just click "post reply" then on the next page, scroll down and click on "manage attachments" a box will come up and you can click "browse". This will give you the opportunity to browse your computer for photos in whatever file you have them in, like "my pictures" or "my documents". Once you have the url for the photos in the little boxes, then click "upload". If you need more help, just ask. It`s all "trial and error" I always say.

You can post them in the "gallery" also. The new "gallery" link is at the top of this page.
The gallery in the left column is the old gallery.

You can tell us what the vin # and data plate codes are if you can`t post the Marti.

You have a very well optioned car! You should be very proud in owning and restoring it. Don`t worry about not having the original engine, its a great car no matter what.
