1968 Testing link to pic of Sara's CS

Thanks Neil. I can;t believe that I didn't think of checking here. I've been such an ebay hound for years that I just go there by habit! We don't need much but I was looking for an original antenna. Are all of the '68 round bases? We have the base and a one-inch nub of the shaft. If...

1968 Testing link to pic of Sara's CS

Thanks Ron. We do love it. We did type something up with a one-page summary of some of the interesting things about the car but I agree a poster could be more fun. I agree, I am very fortunate to have a wife who loves cars! I appreciate that she is more the exception than the rule. The...

Info, cars & coffee and possible, magazine article Wow, thanks for all the great info guys! You are a great help. Sara and I took the CS to its first cars and coffee gathering this weekend. If I can figure out the pics I'll post a few. She had a great time driving her new car. I warned her...

1968 How do I check originality of engine and related component.

Engine metal tag Also found a metal tag on the front of the block. It reads': 302 C 68 1 Ford 8-B K284 - J Can someone decode this for me? Thanks. Steve

1968 How do I check originality of engine and related component.

I found the vin number on the pad. Good news is that it is the original block # 8R160856...same as the car vin. Here is the number on the Holley carb: 1850-9 2665 Any knowledge of this carb and is part of the number a date code? Finally I did find that the intake manifold is an Edelbrock...

1968 How do I check originality of engine and related component.

Thanks everyone for the great info. I'll start with the vin on the block since that seems fairly straightforward. Will report back this weekend. Steve

1968 How do I check originality of engine and related component.

Would appreciate some advice as to how I check into the originality of my j-code engine, carb, manifold, heads, etc. The Carb is a Holley 4 barrel and its seems these cars came with Autolite carbs. Correct? Would this likely have been a change due to preference? I'm not sure which Holley...

    1968 8R01C156235 dying in a field

I'm with you Tim. I've gone the route of perfectly restored or obsessively original and low mileage cars when I was into vintage corvettes. Loved that part of the hobby and loved showing my cars. But...I tired of the fact that I refused to drive my perfect cars and also I realized that when a...

    1968 Making Progress

One other question Scott. I noticed that some of those hood scope have a chrome egg-crate style grill just inside the opening of the scoop. Did all the '68 scoops have this? Mine does not and I think I would prefer the grill in place if one was made for it. Thanks

Scott I don't suppose that you're itching to sell that '68 CJ convertible? : ) BEAUTIFUL car. Steve

    1968 Making Progress

Scott, I'll check today or tomorrow. The car is in my storage garage. Actually I don't think there are cut-outs for lights. If this is for a '68 what would it have been used for? Which cars? Thanks. Interesting that if you are correct, then perhaps this was actually installed at the dealer...

    1968 Making Progress

Thanks Rob. I like your solution! Very nice cars. I agree with you on the '69/'70 ram air. I was wondering about the blinkers. Hadn't noticed that the placement of the scoop might prevent use of them. All we know about installation is that the PO mentioned that they had it installed at the...

hmmmm...hadn't thought of that. Then again the shelby pics earlier in this thread also have the snorkel still attached?

    1968 Making Progress

Thanks for the info and pic. This looks like the set-up on my '68 f100 with a 360 although I think there is one on each valve cover on the pickup. Am I correct that this was probably eliminated on the mustang since the top of the air cleaner is open and therefore there would be no re-capture...

    1968 Making Progress

Good point. Looks like it's the valve covers and not much else. : ) I am trying to repair some dings via PDR but don't plan on a repaint. The trunk lid is pretty bad...faded and worn through in spots to the fiberglass but again, once I start painting things like the trunk lid we're on the...

    1968 Making Progress

I feel somewhat the same way Neil but I also don't want to start the slippery slope of turning this car into a restoration project. There just aren't that many original (or original as the PO's chose to modify them) cars out there anymore. I love that this car has only seen one owner and the...

    1968 Making Progress

Gotta love the things you pick up on this site. I do see the steel cap you are talking about and I suspect you are saying that there was a rubber vent hose from the oil filler cap to the air cleaner through the hole where the cap now is. But what do you mean by "the air cleaner elbow has been...

Not sure exactly what you mean. What technically is the plenum? If it is the portion of the scoop on the underside of the hood, which creates the seal, then yes, there is none an its is just a hole cute in the hood. I'll see if I can find a pic of the underside of the hood.
