    1968 Repaint under way...

Yep, the wire wheel is not that aggressive. Would never use a grinding wheel on it. The purple discs used to final strip are not too bad, but do leave swirls that etch will cover on the panels, would be scary to use it on the inner doors!!! I wiped with lacquer thinner, it removed "some"...

    1968 Coolant overflow issues

No real way to tell if its damaged unless you take it apart. If it "sounds fine" it probably is. Some additional wear maybe, but that's is what it is. A 15-16lb cap won't really solve why it is happening, but if it works then it treats the symptom. New engines, as yours sounds to be, can run...

    1968 Coolant overflow issues

260 is way hot! A new cap or recovery tank masks the issue, does not fix it. Start simple test your cap, if it is not holding correct pressure the coolant can boil and lead to overheating... Coolant recovery is nice, but as it was never needed from the factory again just masks the real issue...

Wanted 68 390 GT air cleaner: Trade or buy

Think I have a second chromed lid, older photo of a complete setup.

    1968 Block casting I. D.

The J code was not much different performance-wise than the A code. Rated at about 5 more max Hp and Torque, which no one would ever notice....

Wanted 68 390 GT air cleaner: Trade or buy

A complete '68 390GT setup is worth two of those. Base, chrome lid, heat shield, S tube and air motor. Yours is a nice and hard to find part, but so is the 68 setup. No smog stuff associated with it, different system. I have one, very clean and complete with working air motor, and would...

    1968 HCS count

You measure one I'll measure another, oddly many will vary. Completely missed the point... which is no one can ever say for sure that all existing cars are in any registry, or if ones previously registered still exist. It is a fool's errand...

1968 Yet another grille color question

You can't ship spray paint overseas unless you surface ship, 2-3 months to get a can of paint here. I really don't want to spend $75-100 for a custom (and minimum quantities will probably be enough to do 10 grilles) mix (more cost for the hardener or whatever else you need to mix to shoot it)...

1966-67 HCS 1967 High Country Special Question

Thought the HCS was a local promotion, just the badges tacked on to, basically, a custom color car. Was not sure Ford would have noted it? Thought it was kinda like the other local promo types; ski country special, bluebonnet special, twister special, cardinal special, etc. and were just...

1968 Yet another grille color question

I am in Australia. Can't air freight and not worth surface shipping a can of spray paint! As hard to ship these days as plutonium, as it is obviously a highly dangerous product! Thanks anyway.

1968 Yet another grille color question

Having a hard time finding the SEMS Titanium noted in other posts. I do have a can of the NPD AP-GPA '70 dark charcoal for grille/trim. It is close to the Cast Blast I previously used. Close to the original? Closer than cast blast which is a bit flatter...

San Jose Ford Sales Co, San Jose. One of the first 4000 ordered and one-of-one owned by me..

    1968 Repaint under way...

Queensland requires a compliance plate to be affixed to the car for registration. A nice money grab by the government and local "engineers"... Different states here have different rules, it is not part of the import process. That requires other paperwork and hoops, they are making it harder.

    1968 Repaint under way...

A few hours yesterday and a few more today. All the metal is looking great, all FomoCo and only some minor dings in the front of one fender. One door to strip, and the rear quarters and they can get it into etch....

    1968 Numbers matching question

Also means date codes on cast items and sheet metal all line up. And the engine, carb and diff tags are correct. Really more of a GM term as they did stamp partial VINs on many parts.

    1968 HCS count

"I have 126 1968 HCS listed in the Registry" A registry is a nice way to document cars that are reported. All it tells you is that all those cars were reported at some point in time, not how many exist today as its not live data, or complete. Only as good as how well it is known, maintained...

    1968 plate under carb

As noted the spacer provides cooling and can also helps shape the air/fuel charge from the car into the manifold. They can impact power/torque good or bad depending on the type used.
