The brake light issue is most likely just the switch on the brake pedal arm. I had the same problem. Purchased and installed $15 switch and it was all fixed. Getting under there isn't fun so you may want to have your son install it.

Is it possible? With Ford in the late '60s anything was possible. The 4300 was installed on all '67 small blocks except the Hi-Po, which used the 4100. I doubt the factory installed a 4100 on your J-code but a dealer may have.

If you want factory correct the interior paint finish should be semi-flat with very little sheen.
