    The door latches can get worn out or gummed up with old grease. There is also a spring that can break. After 55 years, it is probably time to remove and detail clean, test, adjust rod linkages as Neil suggested. Use a fresh lubricant, I like Sil Glyde, it works really well on door and window...

    Arlie, it looks like you could use a slightly longer fan spacer? Blades should be approximatley 1/2 inside of the fan shroud. Picture is cut off, but looks like fan is mostly outside? Maybe yes, maybe no?

    On the radio wiring plug, (the one with two female plugs, blue) has two power leads. One lead is for radio power, the other is for illumination of the dial. Lots of people confuse the wire pair as positive and negative.
