I found this GT / CS and need some help

Looks like a proper GT/CS, but they have been cloned. The VIN has to start with 8R01....., it has to have been built in San Jose, California. 8T01, OR 8F01, are a no go.

For Sale 1968 GT/CS Gulf Stream Aqua 289 4 Speed

Not sure about the claim that the 289 was bored out to a 302. Both engines have a 4.00 bore. Maybe it originally had a 302 block and 289 crank shaft? Rebuilt with a 302 crank possibly? Armstrong steering and drums brakes all around. Factory 4 speed, must have been fun in the snow. Maybe a...

Non factory upgrades - value or devalue??

Pony, my GT/CS was also born Meadow Lark yellow, but with a J code 302-4V. Restoring mine with a color change to Acapulco blue. Added Ford disc brakes, lowered front coils to lower front end slightly. It will also have a thicker front sway bar, 15 inch styled steel wheels and GT caps, GT...

    1968 Deluxe Interior Upgrade

The caps have a Cougar part number associated with them. They were used on all 1967-68 XR7 models as well as Deluxe Mustang interiors. We are currently out of stock on one or the other sides. Spendy little buggers, about $35 per side used. Also included would be a faux leather wrapped shifter...

For Sale 1968 California Special Meadowlark Yellow X Code 390

Nice looking car. Would look nearly perfect without the tinted fog lights. Would also perfer the Marti called out styled steel wheels, instead of the Magnum 500's. Kind of like the antenna mounted in the rear quarter panel and striped hood.

    Post your Marti Report here

2 of the 4 in this recent post were bench and vinyl top. What is the pattern for the whole registry? Dang, I really like the way that the S code car is optioned.

For Sale Mustang GT/CS (California Special) Recognition Guide and Owner's Manual #501

There are probably less unsigned copies, than signed copies out in circulation. Maybe after 10 years, it has finally sold out... maybe?

There is an ashtray in your original photo. Different than what would be expected or shown in the most recent picture.

    1968 Registry Data

Thank you for everything that you do for the GT/CS community and data base Arlie. If I recall correctly, PN felt that 90% of the surviving cars had been found. The book came out in 2011, but wasn't it completed December 2007?

1968 California "Script" and the first 14 cars

Holy thread resurrection Batman! Got suckered into this without checking the dates. Took pictures of my NOS side script and mounting location on my February 6 built GT/CS. It appears that the holes are in the appropriate production location. Per my Marti Report; Car scheduled for build Feb 5...

Can't find the exact dates right now. 68 days long, September - November?

1968 I’d tag and production run number

This would have been car 544, of the Milpitas/San Jose plant for 1968 Mustangs. 30H or August 30, 1967, was the scheduled build date for this car. It could have been built much later or on time. Have the Marti Report?

    1968 Tail Panel Installation Question

I have not seen the repop rear panel that looks like dog bone cut outs. A standard 1967-68 Mustang coupe steel panel with modifications, would be doing it right.

The highland green car is nicely optioned. Deluxe interior, PS, PB, tilt, convenience group, A/C, headrests, console, styled steel wheels.

1968 date codes for intake manifold

30 days before is a good call for a C code 289-2V intake manifold. 30 days or more, for the other V-8 engine intakes. To be sure, you would want to do a sampling of San Jose cars with the same engine code, and a similar build date. J, X, S, and R code intakes were likely cast in batches...
