1968 Update on My Lime Gold GT/CS

More Progress on My Lime Gold GT/CS Well, since the first post, I have made some progress on the car. I installed the headliner and dash pad, installed and adjusted all the glass, finished assembling the motor, married the transmission to the motor and installed the...

1968 Update on My Lime Gold GT/CS

Scott, What a collection!!! Your car appears to be identical to mine...only in much better original condition. Thanks for the offer, and if I come across something that I need help on, I'll contact you. Thanks again, Russ (By the way, great article in Mustang Monthly on your burgandy...

1968 Update on My Lime Gold GT/CS

Arlie, I hope to show the highland green and lime gold GT/CS cars together as a "his and hers" pair. I really don't "need" two GT/CS cars, but I sure do like both cars. By the way, the fiberglass end cap I got from you years ago is on the lime gold car...it worked out great! Scott, I've seen...

1968 Update on My Lime Gold GT/CS

Steve, I'll try to post some photos of the stamps and the locations. As Jeff may have said, each paint inspector had a stamp with his/her number, so there would be two or more paint inspectors that checked the quality of the paint. I'm not familiar with the four different types of stamps...

1968 Update on My Lime Gold GT/CS

Steve, The color of the stamps depended upon the color of the car...darker cars had yellow stamps and lighter cars used a black. Jeff and I have corresponded about the placement of stampings, and I've used original cars to guide me on the stampings. I've used Testor's paint and poured the...

1968 Update on My Lime Gold GT/CS

The engine is an original, 1968 302 engine with original, 4V heads (not aluminum). The head work includes new valves, hardened valve seats, and new springs. The heads were glass-bead blasted and milled to insure they were flat. The crank mains and rods are standard and required nothing else...

1968 Update on My Lime Gold GT/CS

I thought some of you might like to see this car in a "before" condition. It was very poor at best. Russ

1968 Update on My Lime Gold GT/CS

I've been away for awhile and thought some of you might enjoy seeing the progress on my lime gold GT/CS (8R01J148913). The car was rescued from Flagstaff Auto Recyclers over 10 years ago, and is nearing completion...hopefully for the 2010 Knott's Show. The car is a nicely optioned car with PS...

    1968 A/C Vacuum Line Diagram

I am reassembling my GT/CS and have just installed the Selectaire A/C. I think I have the vacuum lines installed correctly, but I was wondering if anyone has the diagram for the vacuum lines. I want to make sure the lines are correct before I complete the dash. Thanks, Russ

    1968 Exhaust Manifold Paint

I use Seynor Cast Blast high temperature paint. It comes in a spray can, looks great and lasts a long time. You can purchase it on the internet for about $10 per can. Hope this helps. Russ

1968 Question for Paul Newitt Regarding the Sequence of Assembly

This is very interesting, because my early car has holes punched on both left and right window guides, BUT on the left guide, it appears that the hole wasn't punched in the correct location and there are two overlapping holes!! It appears the individual doing the punching didn't get it right...

    1968 Clearcoats-Recommendations

I'm partial to Dupont products and have had wonderful results with Dupont ChromaBase. Whatever product you select, don't purchase an "economy" base/clear product. With the top of the line product from any brand of paint you can expect good results. Hope this helps, Russ

1968 Question for Paul Newitt Regarding the Sequence of Assembly

Paul, Thanks for the prompt reply. The window guide assembly is a galvanized, retangular plate that holds the window glides. This "plate" completely covers the stud/nut holding the GT/CS side scoop and does not allow any access to this nut without the stamped hole. I assumed the 1 1/4"...

1968 Question for Paul Newitt Regarding the Sequence of Assembly

As I reassemble my latest GT/CS project (my lime gold GT/CS built on March 9), I find myself comparing my earlier car (the Highland green GT/CS built on Feb 14) with the later car. As I began to install the rear quarter window and the quarter window guide assembly (pn: C7ZB 6529752-3) into the...

Photos of "Old School" Torq Thrust Wheels Here are some photos of my 1968 GT with original American Racing Equipment Torq Thrust 14"X7" wheels. These wheels have a 1/2" positive offset. The wheels are not reproductions and are "old school" since they use 225/70 X 14 tires. These wheels are...
