Whats up with those hood pins? Are they missing?

Yep. Also, the side stripe looks like is set high. Needs new weather stripping around the windshield as well. I doubt it means much, in relation to the GT question, but the letter from Ford does have GT up next to the engine size. I assume that is just a standard note with the 390 4Vs not necessarily proving its a GT?

Not all S codes were GT's. I looked at one back in the mid 90's that was an original owner bone stock and it even had drum front brakes. Remember they could be ordered any way you wanted them back then.

Cheers,

yes, they (390's) can be ordered as a non GT. I could have swore there was one on the site at one time (or maybe I am confusing another car).

I thought all 390-4V cars were GT. Maybe not, but I thought so. The fact that it says "GT" on the Ford report is interesting. I have a document from Ford dated 12-12-67 stating "390-cu. in. 4V V-8 engine option now available only with GT Equipment Group".

The only engine option that has to have the mandatory GT equipment group is the R-code or 428ci engine. That includes the California Special.

If I'm not mistaken his production #'s are wrong. "75 S code 4 speeds in the GT/CS" -there were 111 produced as a S code 4 speed and 75 "X" code automatics. Plus, as has already been stated you could order an "S" Code without the GT package, one of my cruising buddies has a 1968 fastback "S" code 390 auto without the GT package ( has the c stripe but, no fog lights and no heavy duty suspension and drum brakes).

I spoke w/ the seller who said he's learning all he can about the "S". He's been here reading up today and is very open to learn more. He also has a very reasonable "reserve" price IMO. Nice guy... Do give him a call if interested!

I would go look if I had the space for it...
