May I get some pics of your car, especially under the hood. I am restoring my 390GT/CS 4V that I traded my escort for. All the numbers match except someone pulled the engine and put in a 289.

How you guys doing?...Well, looks like this site is really helping, also that I have a friend who works for Edelbrock here in California, who have spread the word/and pictures, accross and beyond.

This weekend I've got a total of 3 people coming from North Carolina, California, Texas. I asked for a starting bid of $13,000 which all have graciously taken. Now they're coming here Sat and Sun. It may come down to a total bid down. The car is starting to rub off on me again...Might have 2nd thoughts of selling her!...

No sale is guaranteed as of yet, but i'll let you know as time progresses. I did take more pictures of the interior and exterior and engine/trunk compartment, but I forgot the digital camera @ work. :(

From my friend from Edelbrock, he had told me not to go less than $15,000 due to the originality and present state of the car. We'll see, because this car is definately a collector prize if it does sell.

I will not be pressured into selling this car, as my father is wearily watching behind my back ;)

My father couldn't believe this site!...he starting mumbling things about this motor being a rare big block and how he had to order and wait for it from overseas from the statets to Hawaii...a lot of history on this car but I won't take anymore of your times :-X

you are not taking up anyones time, I am sure I speak for everyone here that we are more than happy to help you out. Everyone on this site has a passion for this car, and to find one like yours is I'm sure everyones dream (well maybe a 428 would be the ultimate ;D ). I for one am happy that you can pass this car onto someone who will take care of it and I am also jealous that the new owner will, or can ask, eveything about the car from the original owner.
I don't blame you for having second thoughts about selling the car, I have been there with my other cars. Just do what you feel is right. ;)

Hubert, check out my reply in X-code ? Reply #14. It may help you with pricing. Don't sell it for less than $15,000.I would ask a lot more if I was going to sell mine. You just don't see the s-codes around. Good luck!! Please let us know what it sells for. Thanks, Kimball

s-code...? I didn't know there was something like this, whats the difference and how many of these were made?...well the handle does have the wood insert with the chrome like cover on it. Man, one of my buddies tonight was pretty upset that I told him we were thinking of selling the car... if the correct asking price isn't taken, then i will keep the car and restore it completely!

Today a gentlemen and his wife came by to see the car. They couldn't believe that we were the original owners. I provided pics of the car from Hawaii...I was in 1 of them when I was a baby!!! ;D The guys who wants to remain anonymous had offered me $14,000. I told him I'd think about it and let him know. Sunday there is another person coming to check it out. He sounds interested as well. We'll just have to see right!. ;)

S-code cars have a VIN that begins 8R01S......, and X-code cars have a VIN that begins with 8R01X......

The X designates a 390 engine with 2V carb, and the S designates a 390 engine with a 4V carb. Although the GT/CS registry numbers reflect a higher number of S-codes than X-codes (making them slightly less rare), the fact that they put out more horsepower makes them more desireable (in my opinion and others'). Which is your car?

Hubert, according to the 68 390 GT registry there were about 215 390 GT 4-V california specials made. About evenly split between 4-speeds and automatics. You can check the web site. Out of about 4150 GT/CS this makes them very rare. 317,404 1968 mustangs were produced. Only 11,475 had the 390 motor S and X code.It is very rare to find one of these cars. Don,t sell it short. It is hard to place a value on this car. To a collector the car is gold. It ranks with some of the rarest mustangs ( including shelby's). Your car does indeed look correct. PLus with great options. Consider how many are left and orginal. I would push the limits on value. It may be worth getting appraised by a mustang club before selling. Good Luck , Kimball
