Looks to me like it's Highland Green

Yes a 1968 calif special mustang. as you can see in the pics it's still in the barn where I found it. The car is straight, it ran 15 years ago, interior is good, Wouldn't take much to put this one back on the road. $15,000 OBO.

Re: "Wouldn't take much to put this one back on the road."

Just needs to be pushed out of the barn and down the driveway...

The seller called me today and we had a nice chat about the car.
I was driving while talking so I'm going off memory.

It's Highland Green with a standard black interior, 289, 3-speed (now a 4-speed), with 2.79 gears, and AC.
The car is almost an exact copy of the one I owned in high school, and I swore I was done with restoring cars but......

I'll be in the area within the next two weeks and hope to inspect the car at that time, if it's still available. I forgot the name of the town that the car is in but the seller said it's in the middle of the state, about 2 hours from KC. If someone wants to look at the car before I get there please feel free.

Here's the kicker - it's an abandoned car. The owner asked to store it in a woman's barn for 'a couple weeks' and he never retrieved it. That was 15 years ago and the car hasn't been touched since. The owner would now be 89 years old. I assume there is a process for getting a new title.

The seller is a friend of the barn owner.

Mike,
I'll send you the registry information. I ordered a Marti Report.

How does one obtain a clear title for an abandoned car? (And the asking price of $15K is WAY above reason, considering this would be a 'square one' repair/restoration.) And a thorough rust inspection would be a must.

Neil

PS: Stephen- not to worry. My Highland Green is turning out to be a keeper.

The easiest way to get a title, is to file a storage lien.

Wow, this will be your first 'keeper', that is awesome.

Neil,

I purchased a 61 Ford unibody pickup a few years back that was an abandoned vehicle and all I needed was a bill of sale along with the proper state paperwork from the impound lot verifying that is was truly abandoned. I didn't have any dmv issues. All that I needed to do was take it to a weigh station because it was a truck and then have the highway patrol verify the vin.

In this case the seller of the Cal Special will need to provide the buyer with the proper paperwork from the state verifying that it is abandoned along with a bill of sale. Hopefully he has already taken care of the paperwork. If not I would recommend that any potential buyer stay clear until it is taken care of.

Cheers,

Ron

Hopefully it's not stolen, but then again it would be nice to see it go back to its rightful owner IF it was.

I'm expecting it to be too much of a project for me, but am hoping for the best.
I'll be there Wednesday and will post a report here for anyone who may be interested in the car.

Here are a few more photos.
That looks like a 3-speed shifter.

Looks like an easy project for someone, but not at $15,000. I wonder why the color change? Not that I don't like Highland Green, but it was originally Gulf Stream Aqua and that is my favorite color.

Cheers,

Ron

Ooooh, trailer hitch and hang-on air conditioning. :cheesy:
Yes, definitely a 3 speed shift lever.

I agree with Ron, a little spendy for a project.
