.60 over is right at the edge of safety. I recommend saving that block if it is numbers matching, and buying another to rebuild.

.060 is doable for this short block, but as Arlie says it is max overbore. If it is a vin number match block it can be used if it is ok a .060. I just did a 289 HIPO block for .040 to .060. It is fine and does not overheat at all.

If it is not the VIN stamped block I would check around and see if there is a cast number correct or close block in a standard or first overbore.

It IS a matching# block. My concern is a .125 sleeve bored .060 takes half the 'meat' off the cylinder wall thickness.
Its not like I'm gonna run nitrous or install a blower- just old fuddy duddy driving.:grin:
When I build a car, its with the goal of it being capable of driving coast to coast with NO problems. (As I did with Stephen's CS.)
What do you think about a 160 versus a 180 thermostat?

160* is too low if you plan on driving it in cool/cold weather. With typical summertime NC temps, it would not be that much of an issue. The lower thermostat will not make it run any cooler once fully warmed up on a warm or hot day.

Were you planning to rebuild the motor? Is so, I suppose you could sleeve the bores. Not real sure about the "cons" of that. Might be better to find the right short block if you are planning a rebuild.

Neil, It will be fine at .060 over for a nice stock driver. I also would stay with a 180 thermo.

Where did you get the 10-Spokes? What size are the tires?
No Clearance issues?

I am still contemplating getting 10-spokes.

These are 15" Shelby's by Legendary Wheels, 215/60R/15 BF GOODRICH tires.
I had put a set on a prior CS with no problems.

I did the same thing... Retrogauge mini-tach where the clock goes and an upgrade from ammeter to a Rocketman voltmeter. Keeps everything looking stock and makes folks in the know do a double take :wink:
