A couple of months ago, I had yet another clutch cable break on my 65 convertible. I'd had enough, so I decided to purchase a hydraulic clutch kit. When I got it and went to install it, I quickly figured out that it wouldn't work with the power booster I had. I called the manufacturer, and they told me that I was correct. Their kit would only work in a 65 with power brakes if I purchased a special bracket for another $100. Of course, their catalog, nor any of their literature made any mention of this. So, I purchased the bracket, only to find out that it would only work with a stock booster, not with the one I had purchased in order to install a dual master cylinder.

So, I decided to install a hydra-boost system, so everything would fit nicely. The hydra-boost runs off of the power steering pump instead of vacuum. Now the manufacturer didn't tell me that the power steering pump I had would really wouldn't work with this system. It quickly started whining and wanting to kill the engine every time I would come to a stop.

So, I decided to go with a Saginaw pump. The only problem I had was getting it to work with the March pulley and bracket system I had. I found a guy who said he could make it work if I purchased a couple of idler pulleys. He finally got it working today.

I was very excited about getting my car back today. It was a beautiful, sunny day here in SoCal, perfect for driving the convertible. I really hadn't driven it much because of the whining power steering pump since the beginning of December. I took it home, cleaned it up, and headed out for a drive. I was leaving my neighborhood, crossing a major thoroughfare, and a white Prius ran a redlight and hit me in the rear quarterpanel, right behind the wheel. I wanted to kill him.

Anyway, here's a pic of my really trick, one-off, pulley system.

Joe;
Sorry to hear about the accident. :sad: At least you didn't get hurt and hopefully the jerk had insurance? Any idea on how much damage was actually done yet? The pulley system looks really good.

The damage wasn't too bad, but like I told the guy that hit me, the paint on this car isn't cheap. It's got 5 coats of single stage paint. Luckily, e did have insurance and no one was hurt. Here's a pic of the damage. It's hard to see the dents in the pic. Also, a little damage to my wheel. But like you said, I'm glad no one was hurt. The driver of the other car must have thought he was going to get hurt, though. We each got out of our cars and I must have looked kinda mad because he immediately put his hands up, palms out, and starting backing up as I walked towards him. He just kept saying he was sorry. I calmed down pretty quickly, though.

So so sorry Joe :-( 'Could've been alot worse tho. 'Glad the driver had insurance lest you suffer "cardiac arrest"....or for Nurse Donna to have to place that driver "under-Cadillac" arrest!!!

I think I could have gotten out of his way if my tires would have hooked up. They just broke loose when I hit the accelerator. Maybe it's time for some street slicks?

...Nope. Instead, you need to dramatically reduce your horsepower.
Street Slicks will only cause your front end to raise off the ground & slam you into that light pole opposite the intersection...

Joe, to keep you out of similar trouble in your GT/CS why don't you just leave that new motor in the crate and send it to me. I'll then send you my 289 in the same crate.

I don't see how that would help. The 289 probably wouldn't get me out of the way fast enough. I'm telling you, my plan with the street slicks is the ticket.
