I recently heard of and went and looked at another 1968 CS here in Maine. From what this fella is telling me is that the car originally had a 302 with a 2 barrel carburetor. I checked the Vin number and it started out 8R01C. I thought C Code was a 289 2 barrel. My question is, Did Ford use the 302 block with the 2 barrel and call it a C Code. I thought F was the code for the 302 2 barrel. He is telling me it is one of the rarest cs/gt"s made because of the 302 2 barrel. I think it is just a regular coupe. The car is lacking most of the GT/CS equipment. Thanks for any help with this.

The J-code will be 302ci 4V engine and C-code is 289 ci 2V engine. Many people changed engines on Mustangs and the only way to verify if its a true GT/CS is getting a Marti report. Hope this helps!

Ford ran short of 289 blocks and used 302 blocks, with 289 heads, in many Mustangs, so finding "302" cast into a C-code block is not all that uncommon.

ALWAYS verify with a Marti Report. Inexpensive, and they'll FAX the report to you rather quickly ($20+/-). Just send them them VIN from the VIN tag in the right side of the windshield (and possibly the left inner fender panel) and see what the report says.

I think it should be cast on the head, like the one shown in the photo.
