Hi from a Mustang Newbie,

I just got my first Mustang, the 2007 GT/CS convertible. Wow, are these cars hard to find now! I have been looking them over online for nearly 6 months, and took the plunge a few weeks ago. The local dealer did a search in a 5 state area and finally located one in Michigan. It's fire red metallic, and a beauty. They said only 7000 were made, and they had several convertibles on their computer database that were not available, and it was beginning to look like the California Specials were sold out in the midwest! They snagged this one and I picked it up a few weeks ago. Just wanted to share the pride of ownership with everyone! Check it out!

It's time to drop the top

Thanks for the welcome folks,

It's drop top weather now for sure. I am just west of Chicago, where the weather changes every 5 minutes. The forecast is for sun for the next 4 days, so I have the top down and the soft convertible boot on. I had a PT Cruiser convertible and thought that turned heads, this GT/CS has them craning! Originally I was trying to get a white one, but the redfire metallic is way cooler. This is the first car since my 1963 Cadillac that they got the paint job right....mirror smooth, none of that egg shell dimpling you see on most other cars. The stripes blend in nice with the color, and the parchment and black interior combo is not as hot in the open sun. My PT was all black inside (electric metallic blue exterior) and you roasted in the sun while waiting for the traffic lights to change!

A friend in high school had a 1970 Mustang convertible, and I guess I never forgot what a fun ride that car was. I'm glad the 2007 is styled more like the 1960s and early 1970s Mustangs, I always liked the front end and the lines of the car of those years. This is my first Ford, after years of being a Dodge/Chrysler guy. I was thinking about getting an '07 PT convertible or a Mustang convertible to replace the '05 I had, but they stopped making the drop top PT for '07. Kind of made the decision for me. Finding the Cal Special was the hard part. Of course, a 1968 original is the best thing, but this is the next best thing. It's got the front and side airbags, satin aluminum front panel with bright gauge rings, Mycolor instrument lighting, Shaker500 CD changer audio system, heated leather seats, pretty much all the options....stuff we didn't even dream of in the 1970s. The 4.6 liter V8 roars when you just touch the gas, if it had wings it would take off.

Anyway, I'm going to show it off at the Rolling Meadows cruise night on Friday. Are there any Mustang shows in the Chicago area this summer?

Thanks again for the welcome, folks. This is a great site.

I am in Crystal Lake and work in Schaumburg. Very close. I am headed down to the MCA National in Springfield in June, and the Indy show in July. I dont usually do cruise nights because there are too many teenagers just hanging out, and dont care about the cars. I could try the Barrington cruise night. I will also be at the Volo Shelby show. We should meet up. Casey

I just got back from the Rolling Meadows Cruise Night. Not too many teenagers hanging out, most old guys like me with muscle cars! It's now at the Meijer parking lot at Golf and Algonquin road. We need more Mustangs to show up there! I had the only GT/CS at the whole show. There were just a few vintage 'stangs, and only one other 2007 GT convertible. Mine got a fair amount of attention, I think all the Corvettes and Camaro's were getting boring to some people. One guy had a vintage Shelby which was pretty cool. I'll have to start making it every Friday that I can to help represent the Mustang lovers! The Barrington show starts the first Monday in June.

It is at Volo Museum, in Volo (just a bit west of McHenry). Free pass to the muscle car, antique car, military museums. Very nice and very fun show. (no free food though. They do have food and restraunt on site) Here is the link. Casey

I agree, and love the color, and yes it is time for the top to go down, I get my convertabale out every chance I can, had her out today. but what it says on my break light,TOPLESSFUN,so true. Mine isn't a a GT/CS like yours, but a Mustang GT never the less. Here are two freinds having fun in mine, the top is down most the summer months, but that is what a convertable is all about, right!! Yes, I do own a 07 GT/CS though.
