The lowest VIN currently in the registry that MAY be a GT/CS is 104730. Does the dash tag match the door tag? As Mike mentioned specific photos will help. I'll post sample photos of specific items shortly.

Edit:
I think the tag is incorrectly stamped, or the door came from a different car, because a date code of 30H is August 30th. There is no way a 1968 Mustang with an August 30th build has a VIN of 8R01C100544. It should be pushing the 200000 range. Maybe the 1 is supposed to be a 2?

Edit 2:
Please disregard the original edit. This may be one of the earliest GT/CSs.

I took the date as maybe August 30th of 67. I would be interested in seeing some date codes on sheet metal or engine parts for sure.

Jerryowens1 - You have us wondering!!! What else can you provide?

This would have been car 544, of the Milpitas/San Jose plant for 1968 Mustangs. 30H or August 30, 1967, was the scheduled build date for this car. It could have been built much later or on time. Have the Marti Report?

When was the strike?

Edit:
Never mind, I found it. September 6 - October 22.
We're pretty sure the earliest cars were pulled off the line and converted, and since this car was scheduled for August 30th the strike probably delayed it until November or December. We have 13 cars in the registry that were scheduled for build as early as September 12th, and the earliest actual build date is November 15th.

That's a long-winded way of saying this car definitely could be one of the earliest California Specials.

I'll order a Marti Report.

I spoke with Jerry tonite. He & his wife are driving their CS here to NC NEXT Saturday so I can check it out. (They only live an hour+/- away.)
Jerry told me that the dashpad was installed covering the VIN tag. I'll fix that post haste!
I'll have to brush up on date codes for the sheet metal panels as well. Hope we have the Marti info by then as well.
Looking forward to Saturday.

Dad,
I bet the Marti does not have the GT/CS option listed? But this car may have been sidelined and stored and later converted early in the GT/CS run. At San Jose. Placed back on the line at San Jose and converted into a GT/CS just like the ones that were later "ordered" as a GT/CS. At borough inspect must be made of the fiber glass, the fog light installation and wiring. The taillight harness and other such optional pieces of the GT/CS option.

No one better than Dad to do it!!!

The Marti Report does not list the California Special option. The owner told me it did not have the Fog Light Switch (which he added but is not sure of the electrical hook-up). I will check to see if the factory wiring is in fact installed. The first thing I want to look at is the tail light panel cutouts. And of course the Dash VIN tag. Any suggestions of what/where to look would be appreciated.

Circuit breaker for the fog lights.
Witness lines on the side scoops. Proper brackets and rivets for the fog lights. I believe they are Marchal's. Rough cut out in the underside of the hood for the hood locks. Proper rear wiring harness to the taillights.

I'll try to photo critical clues. Hoping for the best, but somewhat doubtful of authenticity.
