No Donna, the Marchals were the ones deemed too bright and had to be replaced with the Lucas.

our special,

As for the difference between the 653's and 656's, I have both and from 5 feet away you can NOT tell the difference. The biggest difference is the 653's have "Machal 653" stamped on the top and the 656 has "656" on the glass. I say buy 653's if you can not find the 656's since they are cheaper. I think the only one that will know is you.

Doug

First 3 pics are of the 653 and the last 4 are the 656
notice on pic 2 the words "Machal 653" and the last pic the "656" in the corner of the glass

Doug,

You RULE! Thanks for explaining the difference, I never knew. BTW: The Brits have a nickname for the Lucas company, they call them "the Prince of Darkness" because of the candlepower of their lights.......

Doug,

Have you done any comparisons on brightness between the 653s and 656s because of the difference in bulbs used?

Anyone else...?

Thanks,
Mike

Thank you Doug for the information.
What bulbs are you using in your lights?
I have the halogen bulbs in my Marchals and they tripped out the relay after they had been on about 10-15 minutes.
I've only tried them once since then, and when the fog light switch plug started to get warm I shut them down.
I'm wondering if it might be the bulbs drawing to much current or maybe the relay or wiring is getting tired. I checked the grounds and all looks good there.
Oh well, they still look good even if I don't use them until I'm sure that all is right.

And I always thought it was because Lucas electrical systems are always failing and leaving you in the dark.:icon_no:

I'd recommend going to a good electronic supply house and buying some contact cleaner. Disconnect all the connections, spray them and put them back together. Heat at a connection could be caused by excessive load (drawing to much power) or a bad/oxidized connection. After cleaning your connections and insuring you have good grounds, have someone use an amp meter to determine how much the bulbs are drawing. If more than your relay and wiring are rated for, you'll have to switch to different bulbs or install an auxillary relay. Hope this helps.

Thank you Steve & Doug,
I'll do a check through the connections again and if that doesn't take care of the overloading problem, I will look at changing over to the incandescent bulb.

Thanks again,
Dave

i have one important question. if someone came with reporoduction of marachal 656 or 653 fog lamps in precise duplication for 50$. would you buy the duplicate ? it looks the same from the first look, only if you have to open it and examine it very very closely it you will see it is not original of marchal.
would you buy it ? for 50$ ? 100$ for a pair ?

please answer honestly. how important to you is the authentic thing ?

Good answer Arlie;
That's exactly why I'm running the 658's on my car. I've put my 656's away for another day. Besides, if your car is a driver, which mine is why run original lights on it and take a chance of destroying them. I can fully understand those who like the original or concourse feel but, for the price you can't beat it. Just my thoughts.

if you get me 10 people who committ to buy 1 pair for 100$, i'm gonna produce a duplicate in my friend's factory. the template costs 2000$. so if i return half of the investment, i'm going for it.

anyone interested ?
what is the potentieal for your opinion for this market?

It`ll depend on the quality.
