Hello All,

My first authentication of my CS was as a result of this site, I had not purchased the vehicle yet and the owner was a little Vague on its authenticity. It had been resto-modded which also made me extremely sceptical to start with. (White Paint exchanged for Black and J code engine for R code).

But i wanted a special and this seemed like a reasonable buy, also I missed Jason's maroon car by about 2 weeks and i was getting anxious on making a deal for a special in time for an impending visit to the US. (Pick , Pack & ship visit)

So what to do - well I searched this sites gallery photo by photo (took me ages) looking for a similar VIN number to mine - low and behold i stumble on a Vin # that is 1 digit before mine.
Now i know Vin isn't a guarantee but a few other tips on identification and this little story was about to unfold in my favour. Later i did get a basic Marti and this confirmed the deal.

So - I do owe Miller 511 a great deal of thanks for posting his details in the gallery, I may still have bought the car - but this info made me feel a lot more at ease with Authenticity.

Anyway both mine and millers car were shipped to Marv Tonkin ford in Oregon (So they really are brothers).

I and Miller have been asking other members in the research game to track down anything relative to Marv Tonkin - particularly a License plate frame. well it didn't take long for Super Sleuth and down right fantastic CS site member Donna to come up with the goods , Donna offered this 1 frame to myself because of my distance from the US - but i Know she felt torn as Jeff (Miller 511) was vehemently chasing the same and they are becoming Rare as Rocking Horse you know what.

So here is the plan - Casey are you out there ???????????????????? If you can replicate the attached photos - I will buy your replica (My car is a Resto Anyways) and send the original to Jeff if he is still keen ??

Yes i could have done this by PM or Email , but then I thought it was a bit of trivia that might interest others - particularly if your car was shipped to Marv Tonkin Ford.

For the record, everytime I go to Portland I look for these frames. I'll be going again in April and will look again. I did find one last year but it was literally in pieces and I couldn't bring myself to buy it. Keep the faith guys. I'm still hopeful.

By the way, if anyone here has no plans for the middle of April (12-15 I think), I hit the Portland Swap meet every year. I ran into Dave from Vancouver BC last year. Anyone interested in a "no-car get-together"?

Thanks Shaun,

Wow!!! That's very nice of you.

Of course I'm interested.

And I'm just glad for you that my Marti info helped you make a relatively informed CS purchase.

We can talk details via PM.

The way I did the GT/CS and HCS frames was in high volume, because they have to tool them as part of the cost (tooling alone is something like $100 for the higher volume). I am sure they would do anything for the right price, so let me know if you want to pursue this knowing the potential costs involved, and I will work on it. Casey

You can also try some of the custom license plate/frame on-line sites. I just looked up one that comes pretty close to getting you a frame that matches.

http://www.autoplates.com/

Specifically go to...

http://www.autoplates.com/catalog/frames/app/standard.php

...and fill in the details (eg background color, etc)

And if this site doesn't have quite the right thing there's many, many, more.

Also, just curious, you were trying to trace your car's history. Did you ever find out if that police officer in Oregon actually owned your car or not?

BTW: Did you get a chance to try out the license frame site (see my last post)? I spent a couple of minutes putting together a frame that looked pretty close to what the original "Marv Tonkin" looks like (main diff is it doesnt have screw holes in the bottom like the original). And for $20US the price can't be beat...

May I beg to add one to your list, or anyone else that can.

It's from the following dealer; W.A.CROPPER (written at the bottom) with CORONA (the city from CA) written at the top. It has white capital letter on a blue background, similar scheme to the one of MARV above.

I have one already, I need to add one for the rear plate.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

I'll add it to my list...had to laugh as I lived in Corona,CA for twenty years!
By the way..."Corona" means the 'circle city'...the main street is called Grand Avenue and it was a racetrack back in the early early days. It still goes in a perfect huge circle around town.

Hi Donna,

Thanks so much to add that to your list. Interesting fact what you say about Corona.

Have you ever heard about that dealer? I searched thru Internet, doesn't seem to exist anymore? Was on the 6th west street.

I was trying to get picture of that dealership building.....

Thanks again.

I don't remember ever seeing that dealership in Corona when I lived there but there was a Ford dealer on West 6th Street that is now located just north in the town of Norco. That would be Hemborg Ford. I will be in Corona on Saturday...will keep my eyes open and of course watch at the Pomona and Long Beach auto swap meets.
Hmmmm now I do believe that the old dealer site on 6th St. is still some auto dealer but I think it is Honda now. If it is worth taking a picture of, I'll get it but do you really want a picture of a lot full of Honda's?

Hi,

This is interesting what you're saying about Hemborg.

Because when I purchased my car this summer, it came with a Marti report saying Hemborg Ford. But the car had 1 dealer frame on it with Croopper. few months ago I purchased the Elite Marti report, and the name of dealer on the window sticker was W.A.Cropper.

I ask Marti about that change & they told me the following; Thank you for your email. The dealer set forth on your window sticker is the dealer who ordered the vehicle. The dealer set forth on your deluxe report is the dealer who actually sold your car

My car was built on april 4th and sold on dec 17. So it's possible the dealership changed during that elapsed period.

So if you find also Hemborg Ford frame, I'd be interested also in a pair.

A picture of the original building at 421W 6th st. would be interesting to get. I guess I can always photoshop it and replace the Hondas by Fords.....

Thanks

Or one of the dealers had a buyer for a car on the other lot and they traded vehicles. You know the drill. "I don't have the car in that color but let me see if I can find one for you".

How do you make the ebay links tiny?
Interesting. Must have been a promo record from Ford that dealers could customize with the LP jacket (thats just a guess).

I'd never heard of Mary Ford. Didn't know who she was...

Not really in that case since both dealer have the same address, 1 on the Marti report and the other on the window sticker
