1968 Ouch!

Went down to the local Fred Meyer to get some fertilizer for the lake. Planned to go out and rough up the lawn, throw down some seed and fertilizer and…… Got Val a hanging fuschia basket for M day…….

Well whatever hit it had a tall bumper. Broke the forward screw bosses on the scoop. Also separated the center stud boss from the scoop. This of course is my one original Ford scoop. But all in all it did not hurt it. A will use some J/B Weld to build up the front screw bosses and you will not see it. Reattach the center boss and it should be good to go. They just missed the scoop (yay) and the damage was due to the panel disrupting a bit. No need to buy a stripe kit for one piece.

Quarter is ok and should straighten easily. I little paint and back we go. Of course after I strip out the rear window stuff so we can get behind and push it out.

I had parked quite away from the public, but it still happened. There was not a car in the two rows I was in….. Had a Sheriff stop by and she can ask the store security guys to roll the tapes. There are some cameras out there. Maybe we can see who did it.

Judging by how high it is, they may not have even known they hit it…… If they did, I don’t care if they have no insurance and are penniless. Just own up for what you do… I will just fix it and go on my way….

ABSOLUTE BUMMER. It looks quite fixable, but its the principle of the thing- that the person didn't own up to what he/she did.
If you need any stripe, I've got a partial set from my mishap with the L. front fender on mine. I will inspect your work when I get there in July .

Wow ! I don't know what to say. I don't think I could handle it a s calmly as you have. But I don't have the skills you have to do the paint and body work. I've got a similar dent on my 67 coupe. Keep us updated on your progress.

Not much you can do... Just fix it and go on. Neil, keep you in mind if I repaint the scoop.

Plus I have a beautiful 1967 Black Fastback to drive while she be on the shelf!!! My "Mustang cup runneth" over!! My life is so blessed! This is nothing!

that's a big fear of mine, i guess we need to also put out rotating clearance lights , caution signs, and post centries.

GOSH, I'm so sorry Rob! I still see a lot of people driving by brail in those parking lots. 'Pounded on the trunk of an ole' gal in a huge Caddy and saved a guy's door in the nick of time at the market once... Big pickups & vans are also full of people too lazy to crane their necks. 'Could indeed be they didn't know they hit it... Shameful!

You're too great a guy to have this happen to! Though because you're great - she'll be better than new!

Your sense of calm is truly admirable. I tend to drive my "special" cars on errands such as this and have always felt reasonably secure if I park out in the boonies and uphill from the carts. Guess not...

Scoop repair is half done. She will be good as new soon!!!

My guess is that there are some twisted people who look for cars parked way out and damage them on purpose. I'm not saying they spend their days cruising parking lots looking for nice cars to bash into but if they run across one they'll act accordingly.

I was thinking the same thing, as hard as this is for me to try and comprehend. I had mine parked way out this evening and I was thinking there's just no way for an accidental hit to happen. My theory on the dorks who park right next to you when you are parked out by yourself is that they probably just want to check out your ride...

Scoop is nearly fixed. Body shop in next two weeks.... Nothing money can not solve! Guess I need to carry a bicycle to commute from my next parking place to the store..... I was way out there by myself. Either intentional or one cell phone yakkin idiot....

Nothing yet from the security cameras.... Might get lucky! If you consider any of this lucky!

Just saw your post and all I can say is, damn Rob that just bites donkey ass! I am w/Jon and admire your calmness. Hopefully the sec cams will yield the purp so you can make an attempt at getting repaid for the work and trouble. At least it wasn't worse and no one was hurt.

I've been driving my CS daily for the past month or so after I was in an accident in my Expedition and it was totalled. Truck has been paid off and I got a little back to me which I've decided to put towards getting my CS painted once and for all. Have finally just about reached that stage. For now I alternate between the CS and my Honda XR650L big red pig of a dual sport dirt bike but the CS is a little funner to cruise the streets in tho. I have the CS fully insured for about $12k (will increase once painted and done) but worry when it's even sitting in the driveway at my folks! Not like there are a million of these old CSs around ya know.

Looks like you got things covered and am glad to hear that! I envy the fact you have a '67 FB! I had a c code '68 FB that only needed a little body work and paint plus interior and maybe a little suspension work to be a nice car but had lost my job at the time and had to let her go. This was back in '89 and I had to let her go for $1k, yep, $1 fricking k! Still kick myself to this day for ever selling that baby of mine But thank God I have my CS!

I'm so sorry to read about the damage to your Special!! I bet it was someone who was so damm busy gauking at the car that he ran right into it. I almost had that happen to me in my Special. Some kid was looking at my car so intently through his rear view mirror that he almost backed right into me.

And then... There is that incident where the guy was so busy gauking at Tim's Black & Gold Special that he didn't even see my Gold Coupe and "wham"!!! :-\

Rob, you handled this well. Perhaps it's a good thing you didn't see this happen. The nerve people have to not take responsibility!

And yes, these cars are not in sight via the average height of the vehicles made today. Maybe an extension flag for the antenna?

Maybe Tim could make a photo of a flag? "Caution! Low riding vehicle here!" An extension of the radio antenna, in big bold colors?

AND what's with people not respecting the "I'm parking all the way out here so I'm not bothered" thing? I park waaaaaaay out in the field in the parking lot, and some goof always wants to park next to me. It's ok if it's another classic, but mostly it's not.
