1968 FORD MUSTANG GT/CS CALIFORNIA SPECIAL
CALIFORNIA CAR SINCE NEW, TONS OF RESTO PARTS
In 1968 Ford Motor Corporation launched the GT/CS or California Special version of their Mustang Coupe. The GT/CS trim option, designed by Shelby American. included Shelby taillights, rear "brake scoops", rear body/trunk spoiler, Lucas foglights, racing stripes and more. Just 4118 California Specials were built in '68-the only year of production. All were built at Ford's San Jose, CA plant.
This California Special is a solid project that has a running engine and comes will thousands of dollars of restoration parts. It was recently purchased out of the estate of the second owner. He passed away in 2013 shortly after he began stripping the paint for a respray and subsequent restoration. The body is arrow straight and has never been hit. There are some tiny areas of corrosion in the lower front corner of each door, and it's otherwise completely rust free with all original sheetmetal. Please see the photos of the original floors, rockers, etc.
The original 289 V8 in the car starts and runs smoothly and quietly-see video. No further attempts to run or drive the car have been made.

The car still has its original GT/CS pieces -factory hood pins, fiberglass side scoops, original Lucas fog lamps, Original fiberglass trunk lid and fender extensions, "CALIFORNIA SPECIAL" side script, Shelby (Thunderbird) tail lights, etc.

While this car may not have much cosmetic appeal, the smart and knowledgable buyer can instantly see what a really solid project this is. This car will be stunning once it's restored in its original color of Diamond Blue (sky or "baby blue") which is not often seen and is absolutely gorgeous on the California Special.
