Casey and Miller,

I was going to post the same thing ans ask the the same question. My passenger side has the witness line and the driver's side is missing it. Another CS near me is the same way. Now my drivers side scoop needs some work around the mounting screws so I don't know what's been done in the past.

How many have the witness line on the driver's side?

Is there some kind of stamp inside the tailight package that would identify it as a CS vs. a T-Bird or Cougar insert?

I was speaking of the fiberglass piece itself. An original one will be kind of pink in color and an aftermarket one is usually grey. It was more of a question of when it had been hit and how concerned they were with making it original.

By the way, my drivers side scoop has the witness line and my passenger side was replaced with a Shelby "open" scoop that the witness line was sanded off from. I had to make a backing plate for it so I could rivit the screen on. FYI.

Redwingrobb - Good Luck on your C/S hunting. This site is great and really was my #1 resource before deciding to purchase it.

As for my witness line - I was just kidding about wanting it back - it doesn't bother me ... that much.

But my passenger side does have a good portion of it visible, but no sign of it on the drivers side. I do have the black paper still behind the screen. Do repros have that?

Repros don't have the black or the screen. Those are purchased separately.

I have been looking at this car on eBay, it looks pretty nice other than the minor things already mentioned. This appears to be an internet car lot so the cars are scattered around the area, not on one lot - this car has 2C plates on it so that puts it 20 - 30 miles out of Boise. I will try to look at it this week unless snow prevents it. I have a 6 cyl 1967 Elcamino, three on the tree - no more 6's please - the more cubes the better :)

And that is why I like our CS's. They are unique in the fact that they are not run of the mill Mustangs. It's kinda like the GT's, SS's, everybody has one. Although I will admit, any classic car that is tastefully done to me is worth looking at regardless of make or model.

Don, couldn't agree with you more. Several years ago when I was working up in Battle Creek Mi at a Federal Building, a friend of mine (57 T-Bird owner) was part a of a car club. They were having a car show at a local McDonald's and wanted to know if we had any old trophies they could have to recycle. I gave them a bunch and in return they made me a sponsor judge at their monthly car show. The night I judged there musta been about 50 cars; T-birds, GTOs, Stangs and some other cool Cars. I walked around and saw this absolutely cherry early 50's Studebaker Commander w/the old exterior A/C. I could tell that the guy put his heart and soul into the car. Well after judging, I went up to the podium and almost everybody was gathered around, EXCEPT for the old guy in the Stude. He's still sitting by his car way in the rear. When I called out his name, he was the most shocked guy I could ever see. Bottomline is that I'll probably never own a Commander, but I can really appreciate when somebody shows the love of their hobby through their vehicles. Can't do anymore than that---even if it's a Chevy! Robb

I was on this one for a little while until cyberkits out bid me but he had the GTCS for sale but it didn't reach the reserve price. The one that had the Shelby rims on. I assume that it will up on the auction in the future.

Right on Robb! Good for you to vote for the 'underdog'.

By the way. What the heck is a witness line? Or am I witless?
Is it a line under the scoop that you can actually feel a ridge, outlining the scoop?

No you're not witless. I didn't know about it until recently.
Look earlier in this thread and at this one

http://californiaspecial.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2448

It explains it and there were pics but that problem is popping up again. I'm not sure but it seems to be only Arlie's pics ... or he just posts more pics than anyone else ?!?!?

I went in a few weeks ago and cleaned out some of the old pictures from the server. I figured they were old enough that the subject was complete.
