Is it out of the car? If it's in the car you'll need a mirror to see it.

It does have a vin on it but as Arlie said you'll need a mirror to see it. When Doug's tranny was out I discovered that his tranny was a different number than engine.....sad face!

Would there be any tags and where?
This is like a treasure hunt. Thick dirt and oil

You got the VIN stamp it looks like. The tag is normally on the passenger side of the tranny on the servo cover bolt. The servo cover is the round cover on the right side about halfway on the main case.

If you give me the number I can identify the tranny. Is this the VIN number of your car. Which car is this? I think you have about six or seven Mustangs!!

It’s definitely original to the car, so it should be a C6.

Rob its Gem. The carb you redid for me earlier this year. GT390 GT/CS from Canada. The pretty blue door tag matches the vin on tranny and motor

I have a unique book called "Ford Muscle Parts Identifier and Restoration Guide". It was printed in 1992 by robert Warner after years of research. It is another reference point for our hobby and contains a plethora of information on high performance Fords from 1965 to 1973. Especially tags.

The VIN number is pretty much indisputable for your tranny. And the tag number PGA P2 is referenced in this book as a 1968 GT-390 tranny. BAM! Done deal. As tags are easily lifted and moved, the tag is just a number on a tag. The real deal is the VIN and the cast numbers. When these "all" align authenticity is golden!!

I can see the cast number on your servo cover. In this book a C6AP-D is abbreviated from your cast number of C6AP7D027-D and is it is identified as a 1967 and 1968 GT-390 tranny servo cover. Another correct hit.
