Anyone know if it's possible to clean an original Ford washer fluid container that is tan instead of white, with enamel paint on it? I've tried lacquer thinner to no avail.

The top bottle is a repro and the bottom is a Ford unit.

I've never heard of a success in brightening them - only replacing. What about immersing it in a bleach solution?? Maybe worth a try.

This may sound like a stupid commercial, but maybe OxyClean. That stuff works pretty well on white vinyl and plastics. Use it pretty concentrated and scrub. Only a thought.

I would replace as I don't think you can ever get it clean. Then, I would think twice about ever putting fluid back into it if it was to go to alot of shows. If it is a real driver (like I know Arlie uses his for) then by all means. But for the most of us who owned or owns these cars, I wouldn't place any fluid into it.

I dont know that you will ever get it bright again but I have had better luck with acetone vice lacquer thinner. The acetone will remove all the old paint and does seem to penetrate the surface slightly and make it more acceptable. Mine was stained by years of old spray paint and oil/dirt/grime.
