Hey all,

I was visiting some family over thanksgiving and my Dad and Uncle asked me to go look at a car (actually a few cars) with them. I have a 65 Mustang convertible so they think I am an expert on all things Mustangs.:icon_ecst

Well anyway, one of the cars they had me look at was a California Special with 27,000 original miles all complete, original and in great shape. They wanted me to tell them what this car was worth.

I don't know much about these cars so found this site here and am hoping someone can tell me what I'm looking at.

The car to me looked like a solid driver. The interior was perfect, just a little aged. The exterior was pretty good although I did see one rust spot on the lower front passenger fender. The engine is a 289 and this is an air car. Color was a blueish green.

I told them maybe $7,000 - $10,000 with the higher number for someone who is looking for just this type of car. Is this in the ballpark?

Thanks,
Kel

Take a look at the below link. It will give you somewhat of an idea of price range on a CS with the description you gave. Even though the link below does not show a 289, leave engine item blank and click on any other items the car may have. Is it a 4 speed, auto, etc. Since you stated it is complete, and in great shape, I am assuming fog lights, grille, striping etc. are all there and in good condition. Were the following areas checked - Floor pans under rear seats, torque box's, frame rails, shock towers.

Hope this helps. Also, does the seller have a Marti Report showing the CS option.

Kel, the first thing you will learn on this site is to always listed to what Don says.

Rust may be the biggest issue. If one fender is rusted then the other probably is not far behind, and if the fenders have rust spots that is s red flag to check the floors. Even with the potential rust issues. If the floors are solid, the interior shows like a true 27,000 mile car, the car is in good mechanical condition, and it has a few options, I'd place the value in the $10K to $12K range.

Would it be possible to get the VIN from the car (drivers door or top of the dash on the passenger side at the windshield) and post some pictures? The data plate information would also be helpful.

Color is a big issue with these cars value-wise. I am going to assume that blueish green must be either Gulfstream Aqua or Tahoe Turquoise, which are good colors.
Here are a few other options that affect the value.
What color are the stripes?
Does the interior have wood trim on the door panels and on the dash?
Does the car have either a floor console or a ceiling console, or both?
Power steering?
Power disc brakes?
Styled steel wheels?
Are the fog lights mounted to the base of the grille or do they float in the grille?

If the car were a super rare exotic the options wouldn't matter that much but since the GT/CS is a fairly low dollar car the more options the better.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I look at this site as a giant "Think Tank", we all learn from each other. If not for this site, yourself and other's included, I'd be dumb founded when it comes to the CS. You know the old adage "Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks". Well, I've learned plenty of new tricks since joining the CS Site.
