1968 Sometimes it is the little things...

Yes, an hour to reverse a part with two screws... But as you note a good feeling (other than knowing you goofed up the first time!) to get one more item off the punchlist!

1968 C4 to shifter attaching parts

Have misplaced the parts off the GTCS. NPD lists a bushing set, part 7343-1, but notes it as 65-67. Not sure if it applies to a '68, but think so. Also noted 7341, the bushing but unfortunately out of stock with NPD for 65-71 C4/C6 applications... Anyone got a photo of the parts to connect...

1968 Sometimes it is the little things...

Went to install the e-brake. Cable too short... WTF??? After the odd exhaust issue thought the pony put on weight while sitting during the "paint job"! After a bunch of fiddling under the car, measured up off the GT S code ... the cable from the handle on the GTCS is too short...

    1968 Engine bay decals

Also wondering which Autolite sticker on the air cleaner base is correct, again have a few variants with different numbers.

    1968 Engine bay decals

Have 3 versions of the shock tower service sticker, and 3 or 4 of the emissions one on the valve cover w/different numbers. Anyone got a clear photo of the correct type for each location?

    1968 Small Block Valve Covers

Were some plain and some with the Power By Ford script? 289 vs 302 thing, plant variation or??? Looking at a set of supposedly original '68s here, but are plain. The ones on my GTCS, which I assumed were original as the engine is VIN stamped and has all date correct castings, have the PBF...

    1968 Power Steering Hose Routing

Look up Shafer Classics, I think I got a close to correct hose from them a while ago...

1968 Exhaust system bending my brain...

It really does not matter that much. As it is after market I'd hang the system before you drill... http://www.mustangandfords.com/how-to/engine/mump-0707-dual-exhaust-system/photo-gallery/#17

    1968 Stripe location

I am doing the same! They are handy little tools and make going around the lip of the fender easier than a string line! Thanks for the feedback.

    1968 Stripe location

Thanks for the input. That's where I saw the biggest issues too... I initially had the strip way higher in the front. Did you straight-line the stripe front to rear, or dip it slightly in the front for visual alignment to the dip in the body line?

    1968 Power Steering Hose Routing

Looks like an after market hose, as it seem to have a long straight tube off the crimped connector. As well as missing the alignment bracket on the back of the pump, which could indicate a PO modification.... new pump or just a new hose... Does the pump have a tag on the backside? (example...

    1968 Power Steering Hose Routing

Found these in the restoration archives. You can just see the strap, it sits lower and farther back than I recalled, behind and below the PS pump.

    1968 Power Steering Hose Routing

just went out and snapped a few pcis. It looks like when the shop repaired the typical gaping hole in the shock tower a PO hacked in to get to the grease nipples on the UCA they filled the hole for the strap. Strap and current routing, which I think is close to OEM. Shafer Classics hoses...

    1968 Power Steering Hose Routing

OEM used a rubberish strap attached to the shock tower to hold the lines away from the manifolds. I'll see if I can find some pics, or go snap a few later today...

    1968 Stripe location

Getting ready to apply them and had then lined up by eye, then looked at the number in the book and quite different. Ran a mockup with the numbers shown and the stripes looked a bit "off"... mostly the very front one. Anyone got opinions on the values shown in "the book"? or compared them...

1968 Exhaust system bending my brain...

And a March '68 Dearborn X code... (loved the PO's, "I got a can of house paint to "rust proof" the floors" solution!")

1968 Exhaust system bending my brain...

If you are going after market I would suggest aligning the pipes/mufflers and mocking up the system, then determining where the hangers go. assuming the OEM mount points have anything to do with mounting an after market system is suspect as their location is driven by the flange on the...

    1968 Marti Report confusion

Sorry to hear that, hope you did not buy it under the assumption it was the real thing, or pay a premium if so...

    1968 Marti Report confusion

If it is not listed on the Marti, it is likely not a factory GTCS. Exceptions could be early cars that were pre-production... unsure if these are fully documented by VIN or not...
