1968 X codes and Registration errors...

DeadStang, that would be appreciated very much. I did not take phots of the complete assembly during removal and am having a hard time getting the brake lines to fit, unsure what part I need as the parts I have based on a "390" are just not quite working out... Maybe mismarked parts maybe...

1968 X codes and Registration errors...

I saw that reference in the FAM for the 427/428, but it does not match the car. Apparenty original rear, as an X code 2V 390 /w C6 and no staggered shocks. Correct OEM leafs, date of diff casting lines up, right tag, remnants of the paper tag, but it fell apart in attempting to remove and save...

1968 Which aftermarket AC & Top end kit

It would depend on what your goals are. Modern or "correct" OEM kits are available, and do work well. But theya re far more difficult to install than most of the after market systems. Big an bulky and barely fit under the dash. Have seen good reviews for the kits from the company Neil notes...

1968 X codes and Registration errors...

Was searching for X code owners, and found it odd you can't seach the registry by engine. So went to the C6, as it would be limted to S and X codes. Surprisingly a number of C codes note the C6, was not aware this was an option with the 289. Are there any X code owners (or picture...

    1968 Engine bound up...

Yep, heading that direction, or that somehow the flywheel got bound. Pulling the engine next week to get a look as it will be easier than more work on the issue with it in the car. Thanks for the suggestions.

    1968 Zink Phosphate colored bolts

Fender bolts were Cadmuim plated in '68. AMK sells kits that are very close to original. Zinc would be incorrect, but look similar. Shock tower covers are either Cadmium or painted SGB. Engine "assembly" bolts are painted with the block (oil pan, valve covers, timing cover, a few more I am...

    1968 Engine bound up...

Removed the one nut from the torque converter and the slight slack allows the converter to move a bit. Pulled the plugs and still bound tight. Any ideas on if somehow replacing the timing cover/water pump and inadvertently misplacing one of the bolts could somehow bind the engine? Only thing I...

    1968 Zink Phosphate colored bolts

Which "engine bay" bolts? Fenders were cad plated, on the engine itself it varies. Some are phosphate, some are zinc (silver and dichromate), some are painted...

    1968 Phosphate Plating

A shortcoming of the MCA docs. There is no clear standard in printed form (I have seen) that lists specific parts, only the somewhat general judging outlines. Items I can think of off hand: - accelerator bellcrank - coil mounting bracket ( a few approved finishes, S2, SGB, or natural steel) -...

. Endine rebuild - now cooling system erupts

New engines can run hot during break in. Not uncommon. Put the cap on, run it and keep an eye on the temp, but it should be fine...

Vintage Pics from days gone by.

Yep, the Northrup "xx"-35 (propellor) and -49 (jet, a handful made, maybe 3-5) flying wings were so far ahead of their time it is scary. Abandoned as they were highly unstable (or political pressure, depending who's story you read), until the advent of computer controlled systems too hard to...

    1968 Engine bound up...

Thanks Neil. I forgot about the plug/plate item... glad you mentioned it. Forgot to note he did crank one of the down, so maybe that is the issue. We have a holiday here Wed and I'm taking Thur/Fri off too so will take a look... hopefully in an hour or so get that checked...and until then...

    1968 Engine bound up...

Well. the "repaint" on the GTCS has become a nightmare saga... latest issue, right at "the end"... Shop mechanic who put the engine/trans together failed to bolt the flywheel to the torque converter. No biggie, crank it by hand (even if doing it before installing is easier IMHO). No joy...

    1968 Horn ring

Depends on condition, many OEM are pitted so it depends what you want. Some repros are chrome. I think OEM was argent or a dull "hard" chrome similar to the convertible header trim, but have not seen categorical definition of what the OEM finish was. I am sure Marty or others can chime in and...

1968 C code air cleaner base stud

Yep, that was just the "web cost" from the site noted. I should have asked you for one with my recnt order of brake block/valve O ring kits... Mine on the car looks like the top one, as noted about 1" too long. How much to ship a short one to me? The second from the top looks about right...
