1968 One of the first California Specials?

A bunch of 1531xx's are in "the book" with a 25C date... The numbers in the book are "close" but daye sfor cars close together in VIN do vary by up to a couple weeks. Looks like "probably" middle of prodcution, if not a bit past. 130xxx-143xxx - first 200, so does not appear to be an early...

1968 Tail Panel Markings and Fabrication Detail

Duh. Very informative. Point is, the part appears original to the car... as pointed out above, "3311 I am sure was a factory mark all though I do not know what it means. " So even if from a yard, it still doesn't explain the meaning of the factory mark.

1968 CS vs Shelby Tail Panels

I don't think the lip I'm referring to could be seen with it on the car, it is on the underside against the tail panel. I won't have my two back for a couple weeks while the repair is being done, will post a more detailed comparison pic once I get them back.

1968 Tail Panel Markings and Fabrication Detail

??? Wrecking yard... It's a one family car before me. It has been resprayed, poorly, but all the parts seem to line up as a fairly original car... I looked at "the book", my VIN falls about 80% of the way thru the list...4118 *.8 = 3294, not far off 3311... not scientific, maybe just an odd...

1968 CS vs Shelby Tail Panels

So yours has no raised lip around the gas cap opening....??

1968 CS vs Shelby Tail Panels

As noted in the prior post, pulled the tail panel. Using it as a base for a mold to repair a "Shelby" OEM I bought a while ago for another project. In looking at them at the shop doing the repairs today, I noticed a slight difference in the two. I don't have good photos and I'll try to...

1968 Tail Panel Markings and Fabrication Detail

Took apart the rear panel today. Found this. GT/CS #3311??? And all the pigtails for the lamps were folded over and taped. Factory or PO???

    1968 Reasonable Price for a 68' GT/CS

Very good price, if as advertised. If you're keen and it checks out, I wouldn't haggle to much, show up with cash, offer 1k less, if no, "OK here's the 14"... drive away... "Could" you find a better deal, maybe, but may have to wait a while...

    1968 Wiring diagrams

Fogs are slightly different as the Lucas don't have the GT fog blue boot w/male female, only two male, so a female/female adapter is required for the ground...

What is your gas cost today?

$1.50-ish per liter. I run premium, think it was $1.55 last time, so about $6/gallon. Talk of $1.70 for regular and +10-20c for premium here soon...

    1968 Adding headrests to a '68

Yeah I found a set of '69's here for $400, in Sydney. $300 shipping... so for the other 3 cars a workaround to add them, now that the '69 rests and bracket are reproduced, is way cheaper than finding 3 more sets of '69s!

    1968 Adding headrests to a '68

hmmm.... guess other '68 owners aren't as keen as I was to get headrests... been trying to come up with this fix for a while... much better look IMHO w/sport seats and headrests....

    1968 Adding headrests to a '68

Wanted headrests in my '68's. Background, '68 seats are different then '65-'67 and '69 and later. The TMI sport seat headrests don't fit '68's (they look kinds funky IMO) and the 69 single posts don't work either. OEM '68 headrests are really hard to find. $$$$$ As the '69 headrests and...

    1968 Ongoing Discoveries

Neil, you're a real smart guy! I think the Ford engineers looked at the under dash stuff, said "how big can it be to actually install", and then made if bigger... :icon_pani I can't imagine how anyone on a line with 2.3925 minutes to get it installed actually did it. My next one...

    1968 Ongoing Discoveries

So they provided "everything" under hood? All brackets, pulleys, etc as well as "AC" parts? Looking to add AC to a '68 coupe and in spite of huge headaches with my first one (almost done) do prefer the look of the OEM dash vents and controls over the add-on setups many of the vendors provide...

    1968 Ongoing Discoveries

Did you buy the Classic Air setup as a kit or part-by-part, assuming from the "actuators" comment you have all OEM dash stuff? Did you have to remove the latch support to get the condenser and drier out and back in? How well did it install? any issues? Looking for a kit to add the the Green...

    1968 Repro Marchal lights

NPD lists those? Part number? I asked NPD if they had the mounting kit for the Marchal's when I bought 'em, brackets and washer, "no" was the reply?? Looked on line and in the catalog... did not see them...

    1968 Repro Marchal lights

In looking at the pair I have the nut appers to clamp the "cup washer" (in photo) to the base. This appears to clamp the ball on the end of the threaded stud and limit travel? Basically the same setup as on the Lucas lights as the mouning stud has to pivot and the tension on it from...

1968 Cali Special Poss Engine Replacement - Questions?

To use the BMW analogy, unless you buy a BMW your Stang ain't going to stop as fast as it. Period. Its an "I might get hit by a meteor" rationale... the BMW driver better upgrade because a Veyron or F1 "may" cut him off... Drove a drum S code in the Bay Area (and far beyond) for 10...
