Well, after all the work that Tim, TJ and I did last weekend up at his place to get my car ready for the Sacramento AutoRama, I took the Special down this afternoon and got it all staged for the show this weekend. Once again, I am prominantly displayed in one of the smaller, more intimate buildings. Once I got there and got her all shined up, the car looked GREAT!! I took a few pictures before my camera battery died...

...And the cool thing is that you're having it judged this time! 'Don't forget to give a (MCA) "Marty" report after a likely successful awards ceremony ;-)

What building are you in so I can make sure I stop by?

My car is in Building 6 in the Four Towers area. You can't miss it

Tim, TJ, and I will be there on Saturday. When are you going?? Maybe we'll run into you...

Tim (Midnight Special), his son TJ, and I spent a wonderful day at the Sacramento AutoRama today. It was BEAUTIFUL here, got up to a record breaking 70 degrees with LOTS of sun! So many nice cars and we also got to meet some of the original cast from "American Graffiti". I got Bo Hopkins to autograph my Participant Pass (without paying the $10 autograph fee ).

We saw quite a few really nice cars, but not too many Mustangs. Mine was the only Cal Special there. We also ran into Robert (Sarge) and chatted with him for a bit.

Here are a few pictures that I took today (forgot to take any of my own car :undecided)...

...Well Renee. leave the pictures of your car to me :) I especially enjoyed the few times we visited it, and standing back to observe you be the most enthusiastic and gracious ambassador to all who admired it! Not wearing any GT/CS garp, it was fun being a "nobody" and listening to the many (free flowing) comments - all good - while frequently getting asked to step aside so someone could photograph the script and scoop, et-al... The car looked beautiful and I won't at all be surprised "when" you get your well-deserved trophy tomorrow!!!

The three "American Graffiti" stars present were equally gracious and very nice to talk to. I bought the movie DVD and gladly paid to have it autographed for their effort and kindness. I also liked how Bo Hopkins treated you as he knew you from before. He lit up like a Christmas tree when you approached and did not want to let you go :) That was genuine and fun!

The Stevenson/Foster GTCS was awarded once again at this years Sacramento AutoRama. I am not sure how many cars were in my class, but I did speak to a couple of people at the awards ceremony that were in the same class as I was who did not win anything. My GTCS did win a "Class Award" for "Restored 1968-1972". There were 3 awards given out in this class, two "Class Awards" and one "Best in Class". Of course, the "Best in Class" winner was a 1969 Camero (why do they always win in California????)

I did notice that in the "Street Rod" categories, everyone got a "trophy", 1st, 2nd, Class, etc., but when they got to the 'plain old classics', they gave out 'plaques'. I guess with it being put on by "Rod Shows Incorporated" we all know who is favored in this show!!! Nonetheless, I am very proud of my plaque and I already have it hung on my wall in the front room of my house!!

Here are a couple of pix of my award...(and thank you Tim for being there for me )

Renee', I went to a local show here once that was put on by the Chevy club. There were 4 trophies for every class and 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 4 winners in each class were chevies. There were a lot of nice cars that didn't win anything, including a Plymouth Superbird. The "trophies" were a piece of 1 x4 pine with a model of various chevy cars and trucks on it. I figured the fix was in but couldn't prove anything. Congrats on your win. You deserve it, and you should be proud that you rose above the preferences of the judges.

Way to go Renee!
I have left more than one of those kind of shows scratching my head trying to figure out the judging. MCA and AACA offer the best and most consistant judging. They are not perfect, I know I am one of the judges. When we go to shows like the Autorama we go for the fun and do not care if we get a award. Congrats again I knew your car would be one of the best. Marty

Heck ya done awesome Renee'!

I've only entered my GT/CS in one show in the 29 years that I've owned it and I really didn't even enter I just drove it to the show and they asked me to bring it in so I did and I was stuck there all day, wherein my distaste for showing began.

I told them I wasn't interested in it being judged and at the end they announced my name as a winner, I won a plaque just like you only my plaque was the only award given out for "Most Unique" or something along the lines of rarity. That was also the same day, in 1983 that I was offered $20,000 for my CS which in 1983 was a ton of money, no idea if he'd have come through with the cash but he made the offer and he drove a GT 500KR and he didn't seem to be kidding. I said no of course and everyone with me and for the next 10 years told me I was insane. I don't think so.

Congratulations on your first win Renee.

...That's always been my take on it, Marty. To me, it would be a huge honor to just be accepted in a long-standing, 1000+ car event like Sac. Autorama which I have attended since I was a kid. To be associated with Renee and her car was every bit as rewarding and despite all the Camaros & Vettes that people seemed to cruise by - watching them stop and gawk at Renee's car said it better than any trophy on a shelf. The people's judgement and admiration was without doubt, un-biased...

It was a GREAT show and I am very proud that my car was on display with all those other really nice cars!! Got a lot of wonderful comments and talked to a lot of people that were very impressed with the car and a few that wanted to know how the "California Special" came about. I had a great time talking with them.

The awards are nice once in a while, but I am more interested in just having the car on display for others to enjoy :smile::smile: Especially at this show since it is one of the largest attended shows around.
