Has anyone else looked at the pictures of the GTCS that is going to sell at Barrett-Jackson? I noticed several things that are not original equipment. Now wondering how it will sell with that much stuff changed out.

Does anyone know the date that car will sell??

This is an early dated car - painted rear reflector and no bumper guards. It is also modified - rear tail light bezels are not correct, wheels, guages, steering wheel, engine compartment. It looks to be mostly a driver (though a nice one). It will be interesting to see what this one brings, as I would believe there are some on this site that are even nicer (some much nicer). Casey

Casey;
Your absolutely right about cars on this sight being in better shape. He's done a lot of changes to the interior area of the car. The engine bay needs some serious attention. I would think if one were putting their car up for auction at Barrett/Jackson they would have done a better job of detailing the car. Still it is a nice vehicle. Will have to watch and see what happens with it. Plus, some may disagree with me but, I'd ditch those shelby wheels and go back to the styled steel GT wheels.

I noticed the painted flush type reflectors...when was the change to exterior chrome reflectors mine was produced march 7 and has the exterior chrome type reflectors...also i noted the fog light pedestals are different than mine...it seems like the fog lights are high up in the grill...are those pedestals original?

The tail light bezels are incorrect??? i dont see anything wrong with them. In my opinion its a nice looking GTCS even though its not totally original like most of the people on this site would like it to be...do you guys think it will auction for 25K?

If I'm not mistaken the "J" code 302 was considered a high performance engine. It was also used to power the 68 Shelby GT 350. This engine in the GT/CS also qualified for the GT Equipment Group.

David;
All 68 mustangs built prior to 15 Feb 68 had the rectangular red reflector, with color-keyed bezel inserted into a cut-out in the rear quarter panel. After that date all had the bolt-on red reflector with oveal-shaped chrome trim. Some say it was a cost cutting factor and some say it was due to the strike causing Ford to run out of the quarter panels with the cut-out for the reflector causing use of 67 rear quarters.

Hi David, I was just noticing that the tail light bezels appear to have the black edge, and the GTCS had chrome. This is a common change when new parts are ordered to replace old ones. I agree with you that it is nice looking, and it will be interesting to see what it auctions for.

For a super nice 289 GTCS it will be very interesting to see how Jason's car ends up on eBay. It is already close to $23k. Casey

I would think anyone actually considering this car will take the items we've mentioned here into consideration when bidding on this car. I may be wrong but, I think these items will hamper the price that will be offered for this particular car. Time will tell.

I don't think complete originality means much when it comes to GT/CS prices. If other similar sales at BJ are a guide a good looking slightly modified GT/CS will bring a higher bid than an ok looking 100% correct car.

I would of liked to have seen your "C" code CS at Barrett/Jackson. Compared to the one that's talked about in this thread you'd be all over it and then some.

Don :grin:
