I am restoring a 390/4 spd GT/CS and need help with what is correct for concorse. This is the same care featured by Bob McClurg in Mustang Illustrated called "Project Something Special". I am going concorse and need help with undercarriage details and such.

Hello Bret, No more flames or flares. The body has been completed and painted Highland green, as original. I tried to download a picture for you, but it was too large. I will talk to Bob McClurg about scanning the articles,(Copy Right Issues) and if it is OK, I will post them here. Mike

I am completing a concourse restoration now, and used the factory assembly manual for alot of the information. You can get them at most Mustang parts dealers, the chassis manual has the suspension details. Study the diagrams and read the fine print. Also refer to Mustang Monthly June '97 issue for a good under carriage detailing article. The Master Parts and Accessories Catalog also has a wealth of information in it. It was available from FORD years ago, I don't know if it is still available. If I can figure out how to post pictures here I will. Do you want to see front suspension, rear, transmission, driveshaft, or what.

The BIGGEST resourse is your own car, clean everything, and use steel wool on the springs, and drive shaft and you will find some of the factory marks yourself. I was able to find all the marks on my front and rear springs, driveshaft, brake backing plates, sway bar, and rear battery apron. Look and you will find.

My car is a San Jose fastback (no guys it is not a freak CS, I use this site for research as ALL CS's were built in San Jose) 390, 4 spd, ps, pb, GT.

I hope this will get you started...good luck & enjoy

I think he called our CS's freaks. This guy has some serious issues. He's definitely hanging out in the wrong garage. Must be a GM guy at heart.

I think Danny (6t8-390gt) meant to say the word "rare" instead of the word "freak". ;)

... I agree, I'm pretty sure he's referring to his fastback, i.e., a fastback being a "freak CS"... ;).

I think nfrntau is a reporter in real life, taking a few words of a complete sentence out of context and trying to incite people. MUSTANGER, you are right, I was refering to my FASTBACK as not being a CS, hence a "freak fastback CS". Because we all know FORD did not produce any fastback CS's....or is there one out there???? HaHa.

I have been involved with mustangs for over 25 years and was trying to share with members ( who I don't know, but share a common interest) of this site some information I have learned and resources I have used.

I can't beleive that people would insult a new member in such a fashion. I do not belong to the "GM Camp", but I am sure the guys & girls in the Corvette Club don't insult new members like this. Oh, by the way, the GM and Mopar guys are all doing the same thing to their cars (restoring them) maybe we can learn something from them and apply it to our own cars. A guy with a HEMI Challenger refered me to a company that replates parts, I've used them often. I've only owned Mustangs, but if you know of a COPO, Yenko, Berger, or Baldwin-Motion let me know, I tow for free. HaHa

Here is another thread off its intended course.

The "freak GT/CS" sentence was a written a little ambiguously and I can certainly understand how Hook, and others, may have misinterpreted it.

FYI, we had a person post on this site a month or so back who was a little on the rude side. Many remember him and may be a little sensitive to possible insults, like calling our cars "freaks", even if the slur is totally unintended.

It's Friday, the last day of the work week, so how about we all calm down, leave work early, and have a margarita!!!

My appologies.

I took the sentence "No guys it's not a Freak CS" as saying CS's were freak mustangs not real mustangs, that's how it read to me.

That's kind of how I read it too, Hook, but I was hoping that is not what the writer meant.

Hook, your apology is accepted.

Arlie, I realize some people try to get under others skin just for kicks and when dealing with the internet we are fortunate that it doesn't happen here more often. I appreciate the insight. Also, in a society that has forgotten grammer and punctuation I shouldn't have let the comments get under my skin the way the did. Although it is against the "norm" I still try to write using proper grammar and punctuation. Although, English grammer was not my strong point. I am raising 3 young boys and hope one day they will be able to write a complete sentence and get their thoughts on paper. Enough of that...

I think most members would agree that my original post was sincere.

Let's get back to the original thread, concourse restoration. Who will I see in Youngstown?

Please don`t make fun of Herck cuz he does`nt write so well. I`m sure its not his fault. My father had a hairlip and cleft palate and I had to interpret for him when people did`nt under stand what he was saying. There are people in this world that are not perfect, but we should not make fun of them. I think we all should stop being so picky. Rhonda

Rhonda, I would certainly agree with you since I grew up with a horrible stuttering problem but I'm pretty sure Herck is just being lazy. He is using e-language, which is ok for people sending text messages to each other via a BlackBerry or cell phone, or a chat room filled with 14 year olds, but I, for one, find it annoying and inapropriate for this venue.

I see both viewpoints (especially Mosesatm). No harm intended- I just get dizzy reading some posts. Back to my maragarita!
