Could someone tell us or send us a picture of how the decklid weatherstrip is installed on our cal spc? Also interested if there are any rubber bumpers and location of those? Pic's really help.

Thanks in advance.

I have done this before and I will tell you, the weatherstrip went on differently than I thought it would; I had to order a second time since we had sealer/cement on the wrong side. And in my case the trunk would NOT close if it was installed backwards. I can post a pic maybe this weekend if no one has done so by then.

I would appreciate any help. Our thought was the weatherstrip went on the car side. It would start on the sides of the car (where the extensions meet the rear quarters) and run one continous piece across back of car and to the other side stopping at the extension.

Is this the way it is applied? If so, is there another strip attached to the decklid for the tail lamp panel or back of the car side?

We ordered the 67-68 Shelby convert weatherstrip from Branda so we feel like we have the right one. Just want see how it is installed.

Today, I looked at Mr. Teets car and realize that the weatherstrip is to be placed on the decklid. With that pic, I think I can get it.

Thanks for the help Mr. Teets. ;D

paul- there are no rubber bumpers on the decklid, however there is a small strip of adhesive foam that sticks to the underside of the decklid. there is a photo of this strip on page 97 of paul newitt's 1989 book. i recently saw a gt/cs decklid that had two pieces of foam stacked on top of each other on each side. the owner said it was the original foam. does anyone else still have their original foam on their decklid? if yes... do you have one or two on each side?

My camera takes photos over the 100kb posting limit. Figured out how to crop a little off today.
This is the photo of my decklid. It has only one weatherstrip piece and shows no indication that a second used to be there.

Many thanks to all that responded. I think I now know how to install. I will get some weatherstrip cement and put this on next.

Thanks again. 8)

Richard - when you said it went on differently, do you mean the seal itself. One side of the seal is smaller that the other. I would assume the larger side glues to the deck lid and other smaller side faces down. Would that be correct?

My jack instructions were in the larger triangle, slightly to the right of the latch. Maybe we should ask Paul where the correct spot is or take a poll.

Paul,
What I meant by that is when I was preparing to install, my intuition told me that it would install a certain way and it ended up being the inverse of that. I will not have access to my car until Friday night or Saturday and I can expound on what I mean. I am thinking the seal has sort of a "j" appearance as opposed to a "u" shape; I can't remember which side goes down. But I will update you this weekend.

Thought I would throw this photo into the mix. This is the sticker in the large center portion of my decklid.

Paul, I have looked at my trunk weatherstripping and my notes from installing it. There is a short side and a long side to the weatherstrip. (Hence my earlier description as a "j" shape.) Based on information documented from a MCA judge knowledgable in this area, I believe the correct way to install the weatherstripping is to glue the "short side" to the deck lid. The opening (channel) should face towards the inside of the trunk lid. As it goes around the perimeter, the channel is essentially hidden as what you see is the long side and it butts up to the deck lid shape designed for the strip. Attached is a picture of my finished product. Please realize that my car is not concours.

Also, for context on where my stickers were placed, see the attached photo.
