All,
Below is a link to an older thread where we discussed the GT/CS script and how the early original script might differ from the service replacements that came out later.

http://californiaspecial.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9216&highlight=script

I appears that "Batgirls" new S code GT/CS may have the older scripts. Most of ours have been replaced over the years.

Tim, "midnight special" I think I sent you my old script? If not let me know. I would like Mike J to have it for historical purposes. I think I sent it one of the sites members to look at?

Below are some pictures of what I am talking about.

I just went out and checked mine. Both sides appear to be the older style and are in beautiful shape. Looking at the newer script, it appears to have more rounded surfaces, whereas the older style is much flatter. That is what I am seeing on my car.

Rob, thank you for starting this thread.
I need a California. (when working on a car I always try to get used parts rather than repo.

Ill get close up pics of my script and post it here tonight. The S code has been so fun, because everything is so original and the car lived in the garage, so pieces are in pretty good shape.

is this one old? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Ford-M...oCo-/271856784617?hash=item3f4bed54e9&vxp=mtr

That is GREAT!! I think Batgirl is missing one "California" scripts for her new S code car. She had a photo on the classified thread but it was not as close as I would like. Maybe someone has an old one that can be restored.

Mine were in poor shape and I had no idea in 1989 that they may be a bit rare and worthy of restoration. And one was broken.

April '68 build, has the "flat top" style... just polished them up with some Autosol and a Dremel came up good... but did not see any part numbers on the backside, just flat... anyone know if the OEMs had an ID/number or not....

If your interested Bat I have an Extra California that is oem off my old ivy car. Looks in good shape, see pics. I remember seeing a few S codes for sale recently but didn't get the story on your find. Anyways the Special has a broken pin. So I don't mind giving it up.

As soon as I read this thread I raced to the garage. Whew my candyapple has original scripts in mint shape. Heehaa.

If interested let me know. Ivy rED.

I double checked my GT/CS, it is one of the "200" (very likely one of the first 50, VIN 8R01J137614. On the one remaining original quarter panel, it has the script holes, in the lower position. My car was actually built 02/06/1968, and released 02/19/1968.

Unless Tom McIntyre from ACSCO, retired in the passed 3 years, he should still be at ACSCO. Pretty sure that they made the originals and the current scripts. I will try and call him this week.

Sheryl,
IMO Ed's are the real deal. The one on ebay is questionable. Get Ed's and have it refurbished to match your others.

Scott,
Do you have your scripts?

...Indeed Rob, I can leave it in the front office at work for MJ to pick up, or ship it to anyone else who you think may need an original...

Tim,
It is in real poor shape, so just give it to MJ. If someone wants it someday to complete a concurs restoration, it is theirs as far as I am concerned.

Mike, it could be a piece of one of the first 14 sets made. Not sure we will ever know.

Scott,
It would be worth the dig while the topic is current. Your car is a very early one.

Rob

While the topic is current? LOL I haven't found time to do diddly on my car, in a couple of years. It is so hard to get motivated when you work in our business where my job is old cars and used parts, 40 plus hours a week.
I do have lots of parts to go through, and organize. I have moved twice since leaving SoCal.

It will be next week before Tom will be available from ACSCO, verified he is still working.

Scott,
I forgot to tell you that "its is all about me"!!! Now that I am retired I go through buckets of fasteners and sort them into the proper size, thread, and whether they are Ford or generic fasteners!!

Don't you have time for that?? Just kidding!!! Is today Saturday again??? Yup, six Saturdays and one day a week for the Lord!!!

Geeze Rob, I was going to blame it on that brown beer you drink, but then realized I drink Good Golden beer and do the same thing.
