How far away did you go to get your GT/CS?

Since these cars are very rare I would like to know how far out of your City/State had you have to go to buy your CAL SPEC? Do you live in the East coast and had to go to the west coast to get the car?
I was lucky because I got mine here in Puerto Rico but 4 years ago I was willing to go to Washington State to purchase an S-code 4 speed GT/CS but owner backed out of sale.
Post here any interesting stories about where did you have to go to purchase your GT/CS or HCS.

I got mine from Ridgecrest, CA. To my place in Saint-Eustache, this represents 2822 miles. Had it sent in an enclosed trailer. A long trip. This is a pretty rare car here. You see many Mustang, few Shelbys. I think in Quebec there is at least another GT/CS, possibly 2 (needs to make contact).

I know just about the only person who owns/owned CS's in Ridgecrest. As a matter of fact I bought my first CS from the same person in Ridgecrest. I also bought another car from the same person. He sure has a great eye for original cars!

I drove 30 miles to get mine, but it had been trucked up here from Texas not too long before I bought it. I had to have a taller friend drive it home for me because I could`nt reach the clutch to push it in all the way. He adjusted it when we got home and it was a thrill to drive it for the first time.

I agree, Scott has great eye. I'm glad he led me to this car. A great piece. In my area, most Mustang you'll see had to be restored heavily due to severe environment; rain/snow, very few survided as is.

Getting an all-original rust-free car was my dream come true.

Definately was in the right place at the right time. I'll have to remember to call my oldest son and apologize for beating him as a child.

I drove out 750 miles to get it in Arizona and drove the GT/CS all the way back to Texas. Ran like a champ. Small problem though: started out at 0430 in the morning and my lights blinked on and off. Doing 70 mph on I-10 without fully functional lights was not my idea of fun in the CS. I knew I had to get back to TX before dark--and the active deer on the side of the West Texas roads....

I'm in Florida and after a few months of searching I found the CS I was looking for way up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The previous owner had it for 20 years and was not going to sell it without meeting the buyer. I had the car inspected and the report was excellent so I flew up there and had a successful "interview" for the car. My brothers met me up there and we took turns driving the car back to Orlando - approximately 1,500 miles, 3 days. The seller had his preist with him to bless the car as we pulled out of the driveway, so we pushed ahead with much confidence. Indeed, the car ran great the whole way - we even pushed it to 115 on I-95 and it was smooth as can be!

I bought mine in my home town and I'd had my eye on it for years. Just waiting in the shadows for a for sale sign. Finally moved in for the kill and it's been mine ever since the early 80's.

I was living in Tucson, AZ. at the time, just out of high school.Bought the car in Tucson...Mom and I had taken a Camaro to her mechanic to take a look at it, it would be my first car. He pronounced it a bucket of bolts and then pointed to the CS and said...how about that car? The owner was asking $1,600.00 , which was a million dollars to me at the time. I said no and the guy then asked $800.00!! I still said no, but mom said okay. She kept the pink slip until I paid her back.

We got our car in February from a friend of a friend that lives about 3 miles east of us (in the same city). Car had been parked on the side of his house for the last 2-3 years so we had to have it towed to a shop for a new battery and some other work before bringing her home. I jumped on the deal before the guy changed his mind but I was holding my breath until the Marti report verifed the car to be a true Special.

I bought my CS when it was new with only 7 miles on it. The dealership was about 40 miles away from where I still live. The salesman that sold me my CS is still a good friend and lives just up the street from me. The dealership is gone now, but my friend still sells Fords. I live in Utah and my CS was the first one I had ever seen. John

I live in New Hampshire, and found about My Cal spec through a classic car guy on Cape Cod who traveled to the southwestern part of the US several times a year. I told him I wanted a 1968 Mustang........coup, no convert or fast back, had to have a 289 4 speed at minimum etc. He called me several weeks later about 3 cars he had, but one was a California Special from Phoenix,AZ. After doing a check etc, I told him to trailer the car back east, and I'd be down on the Cape to take a look at it. Needless to say the rest is history, and I've owned the car for 8 years. Have a lot of fun with my wife and kids driving around, and cruising to the seacoast in NH and Maine.
Proud to own this piece of Ford Mustang.

Found mine about 2 miles away. Had to trailer it home then rebuild it from the ground up. It had sat for several years.
